Ok so since the update will be out today, who's up for some mother loving co-op action?

A few people where on tonight, what do you all think? I've been really really enjoying it even if does have inbuilt frustration. The jump in difficulty of the 9th wave is crazynes, i think it's meant to a block until people level up and learn to play and getting to the 9th wave is fun... it's just like running in to a brick wall. Sure when i pass it i'll be really happy but still heh

But ya very much fun if we can get a reg night going i'll keep on playing... level 5 captain already :D

Wave 9 really is a killer. I was playing as the Mek, and even with the AoE stun, we couldn't kill the Banshee swarms quick enough. We got to Wave 10 once (dozens and dozens of plasma-gun-armed Space Marines), died horribly, and went back to dying on Wave 9 again after that. It seems pretty important to stay together, combining auras etc.

I think you need bombardment or one of the other big AoE damage dealers to deal with that wave in an effective manner... level 10 is the half way point so expecting to pass it with level 5/20 or so heros is likely a bit much. With an good team getting to wave 9 isn't hard and it's getting easier as i get used to the waves and level up with new and better gear for new and better tactics.

I think Wave 9 may require using the building.

I only took a moment to try the Farseer and the Mekboy. I like them both, but the Farseer seems quite a bit harder to use, that confuse requires finesse.

I like the idea of the leveling system, it seems to be based more on the Guild Wars style, where higher level gear tends toward more focused/specced not so much as just being BETTER.

The mode has me excited for Relic's 40k Diablo game they showed trailers of a while back.

Codicier, Fenced, and I managed to get to wave 16 using all 3 commanders. Was incredibly fun. Wave 9 and 10 are seriously harsh.

Sticking together is the main thing. We also tended to outright ignore the victory points. Instead focusing on fighting and trying to get to the next wave. Not so much the score.

With my help you would have made it to 20.

I don't have most of the PC only guys on my Live Account. Sigh. I wish the Steam Friends-list was also capable of doing the magic as well.

Agreed.

Lets get a list of the Live tags for the folks doing The Last Stand bit.

Made it as far as Wave 10 with Jackel and Hap. Wave 9 is evil if you don't handle it properly.

I'm loving it so far! I'm playing mostly in the EU daytime, so if any of you wanna play, hit me up.

So far i've gotten past wave 9/10 a couple of times, but damn they're hard.

Hotcod

made it past 9 for the first time with some random pubs... I think the key was rushing up north in to the spawning area... or any of them really it just about dealing with as much of the CC as you can quickly before the cannons get turned on you, if you are in a spawn it takes the cannons a while to get there and set up at which point you can either charge down to them or circle around behind cover and flank them.

Runes of Warding (Temp Invulnerability)

So far I'm a bit underwhelmed.

My marine is always in yellow armour despite what I select, and Windows Live is fucking shitting the bed every 5 minutes.

As soon as i got teleport with my eldar wave 9 became a piece of cake. (Hit'n'run is a valid tactic!) And man have i saved many teams by porting around rezzing and such. My build is pretty much the same as Codiciers, except instead of confusion i have +0.3 energy regen.

As for armour colour, i've always gotten my homemade colours when playing.

Narradisall

It seems to randomly pick armour.

It does appear that advancement is purely based on skill and gear selections. Which is good imo, im just leveling up now....

Narradisall
10-15-2009, 12:19 PM
I seem to get completely randomised armour colour, its strange.

I wished they had given you points which you could then have spent on armour. I do like the level up gives gear and options, but so far im just grinding the early levels.

Level 4 so far.

I've only Reached level 10 once. Both allies died on me during 9 and as mekboy, I made full use of te teleporter to get out of the way from the cannons. Was very fun and tense.

I've gotten up to level 9 and wave 13.

It still seems very basic to me though. I would have thought they could have thrown together a couple more maps for a change in scenery or something. It's a bit of a grind fest through the first 10 waves just to level up enough to get through the next 5 or so waves, then to level up a bit more so you can start getting to wave 19 etc etc.

I gave it a shot last night with Jackel and mightbe. I didn't do very well. With their help, we made it as far as wave seven. Did I mention that yesterday was the first time I played Dawn of War?

At the select a hero select part, you should see a small field under the character that says Chapter.... Choose one from there and the color should stick. OR go to the Multiplayer tab of the main screen, and there is a army painter where you can make your own custom color scheme, then save it so you can select it during multiplayer matches/Last Stand.

He's talking about changing it and it not saving it. It happened to me a few times. Restarting the game fixed it.

The DLC added a lot of bugs, Codicier was having a problem with selecting a hero. Where he was stuck with the Force Commander.

There also seems to be a crash issue with The Last Stand. Basically, what I'm saying, is that Relic QA screwed the pooch like normal. :p

Good thing Live requires a long QA process to catch any bugs relic missed.....err nevermind.

(Sorry I just do not think Live adds anything to any game at this point).

I'm thinking Confuse on wave 16 is going to be essential. Getting the mirror images to fight each other would probably take them out really fast.

It's nice, but it's doable without it. One of the things to keep in mind when making a character is to build some exploitable weakness in it.

Managed to get to wave 19 though.

Nice. What level are you now (for the Mekboy that is, if you're still playing him)? Oh how I wish I could join in. Curse this deluge of assignments, curse it I say!

Yeah, and a Warboss that puts them to shame.

Everytime we get passed that wave. It tends to be because we ran in circles around the map. Slowly taking them down with long range/confuse/rokz/eldritch.

We beat wave 20, with the cheapest build ever. Farseer with group teleport and confuse, marine with plasma gun, and mekboy with the heaviest armor and the battery ability. We all got unshakeable, so that we couldn't be knocked down, as it screwed with the teleport.

Basically all we did was teleport from gate to gate, killing guys and kiting them around the map. Took a while, and we never kept either of the control points so we had a low score (especially when we died once or twice on the last levels), but in the end we finally beat that bastard and his whole posse. Not going to say specifically what it was, so I don't spoil the surprise; suffice it to say that confuse is absolutely necessary, and it's a tricky fight.

Now we'll have to try and actually get a high score.

Narradisall

Well I got up to Wave 16 and level 11.

Its not too bad, but still there are a few annoying bugs (the armour thing isn't just me from what I read) and only up to wave 20 it seems a bit... shallow.

Somehow I was expecting more depth for something they've been talking about for a while. Maybe they'll add more loadouts, maps and variations in the waves (or more waves). I'll probably finish it over the weekend but it'll have to go on the backburner as Brutal Legend drops today. Still its free I suppose!

Oh yeah, GFWL still sucks.

Hotcod
10-16-2009, 06:40 AM
think is i'm sure we'll see more maps with different waves and unique challenges and such and maybe new heros and other things as time goes on... for a free extra game mode i'm really enjoying it and it's something i'll keep hopping on for for a few games a week for a long while i think.

Okay, i normally don't have any problems with GFWL but this one thing pisses me off. Why can't my friends play rockband in the livingroom (while being signed in on my account) without me having to disconnect from DoW II! >_<

So, I recently started giving this a whirl agai, determined to do Wave 20 with my Chaos sorcerer. My god this is frustrating being a squishy cloth wearer.

I tried using minions heavy at first, but while I could teleport around to live while my minions took the flak, it took forever, and at 4 armour I died easy, even with deathlessness.

So now I'm packing a Let the Galaxy burn heavy setup. Of course I can get to level 20 easy with this, even burning level 16 to bits (provided my allies don't rush into my clone firing fireballs), but it still falls apart on Wave 20 sicne I can't teleport around.

Damnit!

Been to Wave 20 - never beaten it. I play the Last Stand on regular basis. For some odd reason I don't seem to get tired of it...though I wish there was a bit more variety.

I can pretty much solo my way through to 16 - done so when both my partners would drop <shrug> , Clones vs just me is not very fair, though.

Favorite/Most successful character - 'Nid with Exploding Pets, Green Cloud , Crushing talons (self healing via pets) and 50% ability cost reduction.

I basically make things dissapear with greatest of ease. Sorcs usually copy me when clones show up...Makes it feel like cheating going from wave 16 to 20.

Narradisall
10-14-2010, 06:17 AM
Did it last night, but one of my allies cheated (went out the map) and just Orbital bombarded them.

I've completed it with my marine (and now my sorc albeit cheating).

Yeah, the variety could have been made better, but the support for DOW games has always sucked. Bugs are still there from launch and nothings being done about them. I'll probably end up going back to SC2 mods for the moment. At least they get updated and fixed!
