Yesterday on Eminem’s Sirius radio station Shade 45, the “retired” MC took to the satellite airwaves to reveal that his new album will be called Relapse. The announcement came during an on-air party for Slim Shady’s upcoming book The Way I Am. No official word or press release pertaining to Relapse has been given, but following the radio announcement Em did play a new song called "I Need A Relapse". Eminem also added that Dr. Dre produced the majority of the album because Em wanted to concentrate on the lyrics. As for the release date, Interscope/Aftermath are supposedly planning a “three-headed monster” as 50 Cent put it, with Fiddy’s own Before I Self Destruct out December 9th, followed by Relapse possibly before the end of the year and then Dr. Dre’s long-rumored Detox shortly after that. If Relapse ends up being a reality, it’ll be Marshall Mathers’ first full album since 2004’s Encore.source (http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/10/16/eminem-announces-new-album-relapse-plays-new-song-on-sirius/)

I enjoy Eminem's music to a point and he's still one of the few rappers I'll listen to new music from. That being said I'm more interested in Dr. Dre's new album.

I thought Eminem's really early stuff was pretty good, but he was all anger and shock-gimmick by the time he hit it big. He was still pretty clever and had decent delivery, but it seemed like all of his passion had gone into being hateful.

I am curious about this, but very skeptic.

Yes! One of the three best rappers alive, imo.

I'll check this out, but I was kinda disappointed with Encore. I'm with Sandman, I'm more excited for Dre. Everything he touches is gold. According to the article, Dre produced most of this which is probably a good thing.

Dr. Dre is awesome. The Chronic is probably one of the only rap albums I listen to.

His first first 2 LP's were good. But what followed was utter crap.

I like some of his stuff that's really angry and aggressive, but the gimmicky poppier stuff is pretty garbage.

Agreed. Most of his music with D12 falls under this category.....the pop crap that is.

Just cause you run out of shit to talk about is no reason to retire. There is always shit going on. And I'm glad he isn't producing. I hate to listen to tracks produced by Em because the ones I've heard all have poor production values. Sounds like presets on a casio keyboard.

Yeah, he sort of sounds like a Dre knockoff when he produces.

I think that Flobots is far superior to anything that Eminem has done. Handlebars was too popular for its own good, but I have enjoyed the political undertones that they have, some more subtle than others. They really remind me of a more political Jurassic 5.

If anybody was paying attention, Dre just dropped one of his new songs in the last episode of Entourage. It sounds fucking good.

edit: Never mind, it was just a Snoop track with Dre being kind enough to drop a verse in it. I'm still pumped for Detox, though.

He retired? I just thought he washed out (kinda what Xeres implied).

He actually did take the time to say he was retired. It seemed silly then as well.

but it seemed like all of his passion had gone into being hateful. That was the good stuff! :D

But yeah, I liked his first few albums just fine. I'll give it a listen.

Dr. Dre is a fantastic producer. One of the best in the industry (his only real competition being Danger Mouse). I haven't listened to much of Eminem's solo stuff, but his rapping on 2001 is decent. If Dre wasn't there though, I wouldn't have even bothered with this reply.

Pumped for both of these, definitely more so for Detox though. Feels like we've been waiting forever for that shit. And Em is easily one of the best rappers alive lyrically. So many haters out there that base their opinions solely on his "poppy" singles.

It felt like a gimmick to me.

I do not disagree that he is talented, I just think there are much more talented MCs out there right now that just don't have his level of exposure. Not that they want it anyway.
