View Full Version : Turning The Spigot... Should I Keep Doing It?

Spigot
10-01-2008, 12:27 AM
The thread title says it all. I know a few of you seem to enjoy my stab at the wacky and obscure games that lie forgotten in the path of the many AAA games that stampede the shelves every week. Should I keep on doing them over here? Are there any improvements you'd like to see to the thread/column/whatever it's called?

I do have the entirety of the TTS archives backed up as of this morning, so no worries there.

Absolutely. One of my favorite features at EvAv.

I really like your column.

It's reminded me of some games that I wanted to pick up and play, but didn't. I'd say go for it.

I suggest that it stays as well.

Spigot
10-01-2008, 12:37 AM
Well... Ok then.

I'm going to try to get one up this week, assuming I can figure out the byzantine format of this new site. Now to figure out what to write it about...

I'm just hoping I get most of the same weird game contingent that I liked to run with on EvAv established over here.

I didn't ever post in those threads but I always read and enjoyed them, so I vote yes. I'm always looking for more games I might have missed or forgotten about.

J Arcane
10-01-2008, 12:53 AM
Absolutely. If nothing else because it was amusing to see "obscure title" after "forgotten classic" pop up that I've already played. ;)

I love being reminded of how off my taste in games apparently is.

Absolutely. If nothing else because it was amusing to see "obscure title" after "forgotten classic" pop up that I've already played. ;)

I love being reminded of how off my taste in games apparently is.Yeah. Some of the time I was starting to think that my taste in games was actually far more mainstream than I give it credit for.

That's the kind of thinking that has me staring at the ceiling till the wee hours of the night.

I loved your picks as well, Spigot. I'm enamored of obscure stuff I've missed or few other's "get."

I'm actually like the Sauna thread by lost. I also like Evil Avnovice's super threads. If only they weren't only Nintendo shovelware games.

At the risk of sounding redundant, I'll add my HELL YES to this thread. Your Turning the Spigot threads were always worrth a read, and occasionaly brought little gems to my attention.

Hells yes, just finished playing Penumbra: Overture and starting Black Plague on you recommendation, and they are atmospheric and creepy as hell.

What are the system requirements for both games? I have a 3.0ghz P4, but with 512 RAM and something like a 9600 Pro ATI card. Yeah, I need to upgrade the last two, but I'm lazy (and cheap).

axion
10-01-2008, 06:41 AM
Heh you still beat them, from box:
1 Ghz CPU
256 MB RAM
1 Gig HD space
ATI Radeon 8500/NVIDIA GeForce 3.
Highly recommended, love the atmosphere and the story. Make sure it's dark, and the speakers are turned up when you play though, like any good horror game.

Kelegacy

Awesome, thanks! I'm going to look into snagging it somehow this week/weekend. When Spigot first brought the games to my attention, I became intrigued. I had only heard of the games in passing, but the screenshots from the write-up got me excited. I had forgotten entirely about them until now.

I grabbed Overture for $5 from EBGames and Black Plague for $10. Both are brand new too.

Is the Turning the Spigot column the intended use of the "blog" capability? Does it make sense for the folks who try to write regular columns to put them in the blog and then the particularly popular blogs get noted on the front page when they're updated? That seems potentially the best way to do it if someone down the line wanted to read old archives of a particular column.

I might just do that, at least with the archives.

Kelegacy: I'm most likely going to be a CoGer exclusively, though I'm still checking things on EvAv, at least for the time being. As for the Turning The Spigot stuff, I might make this week's be the final one on EvAv, though all of the reds who approved it over there are now over here. *shrug*

I thought I had a couple more weeks to close the spigot over there and open it over here. I'm not going to bother doing the same thread for both sites though, barring this week's article...

Ok. Question #3: Should I stick to the Sunday schedule or would you guys like these on a different day? Maybe I should make a poll...

I have a game just begging for the spotlight this week. It's both obscure AND amazing... and I finally got my hands on a copy today in a coup that can be described only as radical.
