Last night I was lucky enough to attend a Microsoft event in NYC (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bapenguin/sets/72157608075433132/) in which, amongst the various other consumer gadgets and gear, was Fable 2.

So I sat down and played for a good twenty minutes with a member of the Lionhead team, and of course, I needed to write up my impressions.

So we hit our first quest, trudging deeper into a cavern filled with swarms of beetles. Combat is simple, yet satisfying. The more you use your skills, the better you get at them and the more options become available to you. You only ever need 3 buttons for combat; X for melee, Y for range, and B for magic. Just like all the attacks, magic is context sensitive, but it has a few ways to modify it. For instance, with the fireball spell you can tap the B button and a ring of fire will radiate out from you. But if you hold the B button and flick the stick it'll cast a quick fireball in that direction. Hold both the stick and the analog stick and you'll charge up an even more powerful fireball. The few magic attacks I saw were really pretty, especially at night time as the lightning effects danced off of the in game world.

Did it feel like the magic system was totally foreign from the magic in the first game? Or does it just feel like it's been evolved?

Not long now, I can't wait to get this home on day 1 and crank it up. I'm going to ensure that my afternoon and night is disturbance free. This article did nothing to quench the thirst though, I need to play this badly.

Crud, my employer doesn't like co-op gaming apparently. *sniff* The site is blocked...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to some quality time with the Mrs. Commissar. She loved Champions of Norrath, so hopefully Fable will appeal as well.

Now I want this even more. Damn.
I'm going to be so poor by Christmas. Do people still accept "it's the thought that counts" as an excuse for getting them a cheap present? :D
