I strongly suggest disabling movies and in-game voice (and using vent/skype as a replacement).

If you haven't yet joined the CoG Steam group (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?p=379501), get on that shit.

Now if you're going to be hitting the 'lands via PC, chat in here and put together some launch day foursomes. After that we'll just love on eachother via steam friends and keep our RPG FPS community going strong.

If someone starts a 360 B-lands players thread lemme know and I'll link to it here.

This should be a good resource for folks deciding between the two versions if they want Cogger company.

I'll likely be playing all night on release night and I've got a pre-order via Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/8980/).

PC for me. The requirements listed on Steam are pretty low.

(I have a single core processor but a Radeon 4850 card and it looks like Borderlands is much heavier on the gfx card, which is nice. Still need to upgrade for Dragon Age though. =/ )

I must admit, until I read the page I linked, I didn't know about the movie. That said, neither do most people who incorrectly say "in like Flint" when they mean "in like Flynn." ;)

I'm sure people can vouch for me, I've been a part of the COG Steam group from the beginning, and was part of the EvAv Group when it started. :)

Basically one guy is the money guy, and everyone paypals him $33.75. He then buys the four pack on Steam and then gifts it to the other 3 people.

It's not hard to withdraw to your bank account if you have one setup with Paypal. Money comes into your account and you can use the Withdraw option to get it out. Takes a little while to do, and costs $0.50 in Canada for amounts under $150.

Well, don't forget that it's 10% off preorder now so regularly it will be $50, with the four-pack preorder, it's $34. That's a considerable savings.

The only thing I did for both transactions that I was the purchaser for was tack on an extra dollar or something to each member of the group for the fees I get for transferring money around in paypal and with my credit card.

Still, 34/35 USD for a game that would cost me $60+ in store is great in my books.

Yah, when transferring money, you are given the option of paying the associated fees or for letting the receiver pay the fees. The ideal thing to do is pay the fee yourself, saving the guy receiving the money from having to pay the fees (which would be a cheap move)

This is what it looks like for my Left4Dead contribution:

Amount sent: -$34.00 USD
Fee amount: -$1.63 USD
Net amount: -$35.63 USD (equals -$39.42 CAD)

...and only the $39.42 came off the card. So, Paypal handles the conversion and charges you in your native dollar, so you CC doesn't charge you conversion.

Paypal fee is optional for the person sending the money. It'll ask if you want to pay the fee yourself (adding to your total) or pass it to the receiver. (subtracting from the amount the receiver gets)

If you're doing a paypal to paypal transaction, there are no fees if you tag it as a personal transaction.

Though there might be extra fees for converting between currencies for the Canadian types, I suppose.

I didn't pay any fees on my two copies.

They can still play with the rest of the mob on the CoGs Steam group who are getting the game and you're saving 16 dollars and helping three other individuals do the same. Man up. The way it worked for me as the purchaser on L4D2... They sent Paypal first, I paid STEAM with paypal which took that balance (33.75 x 3) and then charged the rest from my bank account. So I never had to transfer funds from paypal to my bank.

As much as I love Dragon Age. I would suggest go for Borderlands. As primarily a co-op game you are going to want to play it with the cog folks, whereas a single player game like Dragon Age you can play at any time.

No problem guys. I wasn't about to NOT get it for 36 bucks (In the end, that's how much it ended up costing me after the currency conversion) when the alternative was almost 20 bucks more. It shocked me how simple and easy it was as well...I'm definitely going to be doing this more often for co-op games I really want that have this feature.

Oh, I understand why it's done. I still think it's bull.

Especially in this specific case, since the people who bought the box - for a different platform - are playing while we sit in a queque. And since I've already got the files, I have a hard time believing that the delay was for some kind of further optimization.

Really though, in the immortal words of today's youth, whatever. I'm not really trying to harsh anyone's chill, as it were. I suppose release will come soon enough.

The PC version is sliding back from its original release date of October 20 in North America to October 26. The international version of the PC game will slide back further to October 30. The North American PS3 and 360 versions of the game will be unaffected, and the international versions for the PS3 and 360 will still ship on October 23.

We contacted 2K Games for an explanation on the slight delay for the game, and Charlie Sinhaseni, Senior PR Manager said, "We're optimizing the PC version which takes a few days longer than expected. Borderlands for PC will ship on October 26th."

Well, lots of times the pre-loading is just art assets and resource information that makes up 95%+ of the game. The actual executable code is minuscule by comparison. So they'll load you everything except what you actually need to play the game.

Lots of times they'll hold up the release of a game to push a small compatibility patch at release. This won't be on the disk (obviously, as printing takes a good while) but it will improve the quality of the experience at initial purpose as just about everyone's first instinct if a program has a problem is to patch/update.

And while pre-loading is convenient for you, it's also a lot less of a strain on the folks hosting the game to make sure everyone can pull the full monty on release day. So it's a win/win. As to why you can't play it yet, that's just so they can line it up with the physical release and have their support staff ready in case something major goes wrong.
