So I am considering doing a little work from home on my down time, and I was wondering if anyone here had experience with Amazon's Mechanical Turk or some of the information services like Cha Cha and KGB. Is it worth the time and effort, or is it silly and stupid?

I believe Spockrocket works for KGB. I'll try to direct him to this thread.

I tried out Mechanical Turk yesterday for a couple of hours, and hardly got anywhere with it. It seems to be mostly spammers trying to get you to fill out your contact info. The only stuff that might be worth it was the audio transcription stuff, but even that seemed to be pretty cheap.

KGB looks a lot more interesting to me, but it still seems like you would have to really fly through questions to make it worth your time.

I made about $1.20 in a total of about 3 hours tagging license plates and faces (to blur out) for Google Maps ;)

So it usually is pretty easy to find stuff to do, the question is, is it worth your time to do them.

Look for the items with the highest available HITs, as while they're usually the lowest pay, you have the best chance of actually getting paid, and each one usually only takes a few seconds to do. And I'd stay away from those jobs asking for reviews of stuff, as they tend to be picky and you'll likely get nothing.
