As various topics come up, it may become clear that I have a man-crush on Jerry H. and Mike K. You probably know them better as Gabe and Tycho (http://www.penny-arcade.com/). Their genius shines at every opportunity, even in the realm of tabletop RPG. As they might say, check this shit out

I love stuff like this. If all my money wasn't spent on video gaming, I would certainly be hoarding materials for projects just like these.

I am...missing something. What is special about this?
EDIT:Forget it. I see what you mean. Props.
YA many groups do even wilder stuff than this. The freefall has been done before using a star trek chess board about 12 years ago at one of the Dragoncons for a gamma world roleplaying game. But its sort of a one trick pony, unless you have a game based around...which would be...weird:)
You should check...hmmm its a DND forum I have to find again. But I wrote up directions for d Volcano's with baking soda, a real chasm crossing with fake vines made of different dry noodles that worked wonders, and a couple others. I will post the link. When I am at home.

I dunno, I'm kinda impressed by it *shrug* The freefall idea is neat, but I dunno how you'd land :p

The Mirror bit, however, was pretty nice. I'd never have thought to do something like that with miniatures in a game.

It's D&D! You get saved by giant eagles, or a wizard opens up a portal, or you cast a few last minute feather falls...=)

That mirror thing freaks me out. So awesome.

They're neat ideas, and it's impressive how he works them into the table-top miniatures. Creative DMs who make things fun for their players are always appreciated.

To share one of my own ideas, I was running a Discworld campaign a few years ago. I have a map of Ankh-Morpork, the city all the scenes took place in. One morning giant red toy soldiers created by Bloody Stupid Johnson started appearing from underground warehouses all over the city. The party investigated and eventually found a game board that appeared to be part of a pair, one side of which was activated. When they activated theirs blue toy soldiers took their positions opposite the red. I had made up a simple rock-paper-scissors combat board game and used tokens on the map to represent the soldiers. To win the party had to play the game against an unseen adversary and defend the Patrician's palace, which they did barely.

Not as cool as the mirror and laser, but we had fun with it.

Ya I edited almost right away when I figured out what was up.

D&D, and every P&P RPG for that matter, were never about the miniatures for myself or my group. If precise placement was necessary for certain puzzles or combat purposes, we'd jot it down on a sheet of paper; other than that, everything was in our noggins.

While these ideas are neat, they're a tad too board gamey for my tastes.

Agreed and agreed again.

You say that like it's an epithet.
