November 18th. I figure it's better for me to preorder it now before I'm hit with getting Christmas presents for everyone I know.

50 bucks? I don't want to be "that guy." But that is a lot for a mod.
I was thinking the same thing KingG. I was expecting 30-40, especially after the huge deal that The Orange Box was. It hurts even more when the game is Online only.

It is a little pricier than I thought. I was actually expecting $39.99, but really don't mind paying $44.99 for it right now. I'll just bike into work tomorrow and save the bus fare ;)
I do believe that this is more than just a "mod". There are a lot of additions as well.
New from Valve — creators of Counter-Strike, Half-Life and more — Left 4 Dead is a new game for the PC and Xbox 360 that casts up to four "Survivors" in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying "Boss Infected" mutants.
Set in the immediate aftermath of the long-awaited zombie apocalypse, L4D's survival co-op game mode is played out across four sprawling "Movies" set in a variety of urban and rural environments. Each "Movie" has an over-riding team objective, is comprised of five large maps, and may be played by 1 to 4 human players.
New technology dubbed "the AI Director" is used to procedurally generate a unique experience each time the game is played. Just as in Hollywood films, the Director calls for new monsters, sounds, and action as it tailors the gameplay experience based upon the team's performance.
Due for a worldwide release on PC and Xbox 360 this November, Left 4 Dead also includes new multiplayer modes.
Addictive co-op action gameplay from the makers of Counter-Strike and Half-Life
Advanced artificial intelligence drives both friendly and unfriendly creatures to dynamically create intense single-player, co-op, and multiplayer experiences every time the game is played
20 new maps. 10 new weapons. Four sprawling "Movies"
Match making, stats, rankings, and awards system drive collaborative play
Designer's Commentary mode allows gamers to go "behind the scenes" of the game

I'm pretty sure that you can play single-player with bots for your allies.

This is as much of a mod as Team Fortress 2 is.

Sort of my point. I am gonna snag it, I have no doubt at the quality of a Turtle Rock shooter, but, yeesh. I think it is more this is the first real domino to fall for this Holiday.

But TF2 is being sold for $20, not $50.
And Amazon had been selling it (no longer, the bastards!) for $39.99 a while back.

Good point. TF2 was bundled with a shitload of good stuff (Orange Box). L4D better be something special. ;) :p

$50 sure seems steep after TF2 being so cheap (bundled free when you purshased Portal and EP2 as I thought at the time, silly me) but I guess if I get half of what I have gotten from TF2, it'll still be a hell of a deal.
Really, The Orange Box was such a good deal it's now biting Valve on the arse.

I think that's really the deal here. Valve belatedly realized that TF2 could've been sold as a full price game and easily have made a mint of money. Frankly, I assumed that L4D was going to be full price all along. They really are adding quite a bit to Source with this game.

Yeah, that is my view as well. They spoiled us with the awesome value of The Orange Box. At least it is their own fault when people complain ;)
I will be pre-ordering tonight.

So the steam release is worldwide on the 18th November but still costs more than a boxed copy. I guess we're getting there one tiny step at a time.

right now this would equal 40 euro
here in austria pc games typically release between 45 and 50 euro
so it would still be cheaper but not as much as without taxes

I wonder if this deal will stay until it's released like they're doing with Far Cry 2. I just bought Far Cry 2 so I've spent my monthly game money already.

I know Adam has seen this running. But was there any word on whether it would feature Commentary Mode?
I think that Valve stated that all games after Ep1 (I think that is where it started) will have commentary.

Here in the UK that would be £30, Amazon has the boxed copy for £26.

The product details include a bullet for commentary mode.
Designer's Commentary allows gamers to go "behind the scenes" of the game.

It'll be a while. I think it was like 4 or 5 months before there was a deal on TF2, and it wasn't even a 50% off, it was like 25% or something.

That's fine, I preordered the orange box and still haven't played TF2. If it had a single player story I'd be much more interested.

I think I'm going to hold off until I hear the opinions of those who have played it. Especially since it sounds really, really similar to the free mod, Zombie Panic: Source (available via Steam!)

me and my friends played it at the games convention in leipzig and its a coop blast
only similar to zombie panic as far as multiplayer goes - since zombie panic has no ai-zombies
for me the multiplayer part doesnt interest me as much as the coop gameplay

It should be better and the only simularities begin and end with survivors vs zombies.
Two modes: The first being 4 player coop in an extremely dynamic game (ever the same game twice, ever)
The second being 4v4: 4 survivors vs 4 super zombies w/ special powers, etc.
I preordered the orange box and still haven't played TF2.
I preordered The Orange Box just to play TF2 (beta)
