Should have been PCG that went under and not GFW.

PCG is such a shit magazine. I'd been reading it from about '95 to 2000 when it was really starting to go down the shitter. After "The Vede" (jackass) took over, it became fucking awful.

Any word where Kristen is headed? She is a smart lady and a fine writer.

craigslist?

Anyway, I just wonder what happen to the days where a PC magazine was so thick that it could last you days of careful and blissful reading? :(

I still remember the very first PC magazine issue I ever bought with my own money:

Yeah, I was confused at first until someone I know told me that's how they "publicly announce" job openings so they can encourage inside hires. Pretty smart, I guess. I would imagine the average Craigslist trawler to be way below the job requirements.

Actually I bet you'd be quite surprised.

In my area for instance, all the upscale, high-dollar restaurants don't even bother to advertise new chef or cook positions in the papers or job sites, they just go straight to Craigslist. It's free, and even in my podunk burg has a pretty healthy userbase. It has become my lifeline in the job market here.

It is a bit high profile perhaps, but still, I can see it happening.

Plus it's PC Gamer. You know a magazine is in the toilet when their online presence becomes a subpage of bloody Games Radar.

I never read the US version, always stuck to the UK original which I think from all accounts is a better read. Then again these are the same people that make The Edge so thats hardly surprising. Or maybe it is. Hmmmm

Speaking of magazines going down the proverbial plug hole has anyone seen the 200th edition of PC Zone? Damn they really have fallen from grace! Come back Charlie Brooker, all is forgiven!

Well, she just posted this on their podcast page:

Kristen Says:
October 20th, 2008 at 6:37 pm

Calm yourselves, dear readers: I’m still here (and very touched by your comments). There are some changes afoot, which we can explain next week, but I’m not leaving PC Gamer. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to skip this week’s podcast: Future Publishing has an annual company meeting, and this year’s is scheduled for all day this Thursday. But we’ll be back next week, and we’ll explain what’s up then. (Don’t worry, it’s really not that major.)

-Kristen

I haven't read the magazine with any regularity since Gary Whitta was EIC, but I am an Internet Matlock!

That is weird. She's still there, but they're looking for a new EIC? So she was promoted?

Eh, whatever. Good for her, I guess. That magazine is on it's last legs anyway.

She could have been moved up like Dan Hsu was to Editorial Director or something for a few months and technically oversaw 1Up, EGM and the now dead GFW. Maybe she is overseeing all Future publications or something.

All I'll add is that I was a very happy man when "The Vede" lost the post. The magazine was heading downhill before he got the job, but he absolutely hit the accelerator on the dip in quality.

I'm confused - I though 1Up and EGM (and GFW) were Ziff Davis stuff; and the PCGs were Future stuff. Does ziff own future?
