Cool news for those of you with iPhones, Blackberry, Windows Mobile or Nokia S60 devices. You can now have push email, sync your contacts and your calendar from gMail.

Does it play nicely with MobileMe? I've been wanting Gmail to be its own app, since iPhone email doesn't handle Gmail all that well.

It appears to use the Exchange activesync client to accomplish this task.

Honestly, I don't like using GMail on the iPhone's native Mail app. Without the conversation threading, my inbox just gets cluttered with 5 or ten replies from what "should" be a single thread. I'd rather just load up Safari and use the mobile GMail site.

Calendar syncing is nice, though.

...on my Android I can thread everything but Exchange. :o

Well, seeing as Android is made by Google, it'd be pretty silly if they didn't have threading enabled by default wherever they can. Pretty hilarious that there's an interface for Gmail through Google's mobile OS that doesn't support it, actually. ;)

You know what, though... I can't edit permissions to my gmail calendar through the phone. I got an error stating that 'this browser is not supported...' I teeheed.

Pardon my ignorance, but I don't understand how this is a new feature. Since I've had my iPhone (earlier this year) I've been able to sync my Gmail, contacts and calendar. Is there something new about this that I'm not getting? For example, if I change/add a contact on my iPhone it adds it to my Google contacts and vice-versa. I'm confused.

Your gmail now acts as a push account, so when an email comes in your phone automatically updates and downloads the new message, you no longer have to use a scheduled send/recieve to check if you have new messages. The contacts and calendar have always been push, mail has not

I honestly never knew that the email wasn't push.
