My official role here at CoG is "Community Relations." But what exactly does that mean? Hell if I know. But I'll tell you what I plan on doing. I plan to share, promote, encourage and grow everything and everyone related to CoG that exudes the quality content we all love.

As some of you remember back in the days of Evil Avatar Radio when Philip Kollar hosted, his lovely girlfriend Amanda Ochsner sometimes co-hosted. While Amanda wasn't a huge gamer, you could see her love for the hobby grow over time on the show.

Fast forward to today. Amanda is now part of a brand new gaming site called GreenPixels (http://www.greenpixels.com/), which is part of the IGN Network. The goal of the site is to share their love for games with a wider audience. So while the core folks here at CoG may not be interested in their articles, perhaps you want to introduce someone to the gaming culture - their articles could be right up their alley.

Best of luck Amanda (FaceItTiger (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/member.php?u=281))!

Let's look at it this way Norse...the IGN network has the funds to pay me enough so that I can afford a computer and an internet connection. And for that reason I can spend my "free time" with you all on CoG.

Thanks for the well wishes all! And good luck on Colony of Gamers as well. I'm really happy to see the site thriving so far and I look forward to following the awesome threads that are to come.

AFAIK, Phil's busy at work these days due to the holiday crunch. He's browsed CoG but hasn't had time to make an account. Though that may just be another of his many many lies. ;)

Also congratulations Amanda, already enjoying some of the write ups on the new site. I'm glad someone finally did a story about Judy Nails being all skanked out.

I'm glad someone finally did a story about Judy Nails being all skanked out.

It seems that the skank factor upset quite a few players. I've spoken with quite a few women who will only play the male characters on GH3. Although there aren't that many articles on it floating around there are a few people who have done some academic research looking at the female characters in the Guitar Hero franchise. I find it interesting, but then I'm a total nerd for academic research.

Not bad, but she got confused on the fact check:

MTV’s reasons for purchasing the developers of the Guitar Hero series. Their intention was to “[connect] with target audiences by creating immersive, multi-platform environments that extend to every device they use” (Martin). In other words, MTV wished to reach their target demographic (that of music-lovers) through the video game industry as well. In order to gain a larger fan base, MTV chose to feminize the female characters of Guitar Hero in order to make them more acceptable and sexually appealing to general society.

Looks like Kristen got confused and didn't realize MTV/Harmonix didn't make Guitar Hero III. Otherwise though, a good paper.

Dear Ms. Kollar,

I've heard many times now, and from many different people, that your baking and cooking skills are second-to-none. Well, you see, it's not that I have any reason to doubt the people who say this, but the saying "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" just sprung to my mind.

To that end, I am asking you nicely if it would be possible for you to cook/bake for me some time. I assure you that my tastes are not at all exotic - something simple like a homemade macaroni and cheese to start with and apple crumble and freshly whipped cream to finish would more than suffice.

Yours in salivation,

James A. Young

Since your in charge of community relations I might as well post this here.

I've been enjoying our new home here at CoG but I find it a negative instead of a positive that we have so many branched off sites linked up at the top of the page. It makes it seem like information is either to spread out in an inefficient way, or posted multiple times on many sites, which is also bad. Any way we can consolidate some of these side sites into CoG?

For the ones that are more "X persons personal site, not a gaming news/opinion site" maybe they can be in there own section so its clear which sites are personal sites and which are something else.

Thanks

What are you talking about? There are no personal sites in the network:

Co-Optimus is focused on co-op gaming.
Immortal Machines is focused on PC gaming.
In-Game Chat is the official radio show/podcast of CoG.
Johnny Gigawatt is the official comics podcast of CoG.
Play It Review It is focused on user-created game reviews.

Where do you see a personal site in that bunch? Some site don't look as slick as the others, but they all offer unique content that fleshes the network out rather nicely.

Darkmatter
10-15-2008, 03:24 PM
I didn't know what each site was. I sort of meant my post as a sort of "asking IF" any were personal sites. I went back over my post and see that I totally missed adding that to my actual post. No sleep last night caused that and I'm sorry.

As for the sites like the pod cast and pc gaming and co-op gaming, wouldn't these all be more efficient if they were all just separate sections of CoG instead of their own site? Just my 2c.

Those two podcasts existed well before CoG, and had their own sites, with unique listeners outside of the site. Hence why they're their own entity, yet still part of the CoG network.

Ah I see. I guess I just thought they would be coming over as part of CoG since they were integral parts of EvAv (weren't they? I can't remember now lol).

Either way, I can see the reason why they are separate now. I just thought it would be great if we could thin out the number of individual sites but I guess I was wrong. :)

Thanks for the info though, info is good. :)

4 or 5 posts is hardly a derailing. I had a question and opinion and Bap specifically mentioned in this post that he is in charge of community relations, so its not REALLY off topic. Even if it was completely off topic, don't you think your being a little heavy handed and inflexible over a few posts in 1 thread? I thought this site was made to get AWAY from that kind of stiff thinking, not restart it.

A "cheat sheet" for the network sounds great. Less jumping between sites if your just looking for the newest content or major stuff.
