Here are the software and hardware numbers from Japan, straight from Media Create (http://www.m-create.com/ranking/), for the week 08/31 to 09/06.
Unsurprisingly, the PS3 Slim was the big seller, with a total of 151,783 units for the week. The PS3 also captured the top spot of the software chart with Mobile Suit Gundam Senki Record U.C. 0081, selling 177,868 copies, including bundles.
The DSi continued to sell strongly with 60,419 units and Tomodachi Collection held onto the number 2 spot with 86,720 copies sold. However, the sales of the Wii and PSP both dropped noticeably, close to the 20,000 mark. The 360 failed to make much of an impact in the charts with Dream Club falling to 17 and no other titles making the top 50. Meanwhile, the PS3 had 8 titles in the top 50.

Holy crap. That's definitely a good showing. But after last week, I'm not exactly surprised with the 14k% increase.
Actually, yes I am. That's fucking bananas. 14.5k%? Wow.

Hopefully similar things happen in the US and Europe.

That's one hell of a percentage increase.

Its amazing what a price drop combined with a wanted new game with a hardware revision that makes the system better will do. 15,000% though? Wowza! I am interested to see what happens in US.

My guess is that the largest boost to PS3 sales in US will happen around the Uncharted 2 launch.

That's a good guess especially considering U2 will be considerably better than any Gundam game could ever hope to be. I wonder how U2 will sell in Japan.

A great, great showing from the PS3. I hope it can maintain the momentum through the end of the year.

The Gundam games consistently sell very, very well in Japan. It's not exactly small potatoes.

Expected in Japan. I doubt it'll be that dramatic in the States and Europe. <shrug>
I wonder were there a lot of 360s traded in or sold as a result of PS3 rebirth.

Didn't I hear that PS3 sales rose a thousand percent in Europe? Or do you mean sales of Gundam? Yeah, that makes more sense.

The next big bump will be Final Fantasy XIII. Doesn't Tales of Vesperia hit PS3 soon in Japan?

Everyone and their mother knew the PS3 would get a bump for the price drop/slim/Gundam color/ and the fact that they starved supply for the 3 weeks prior, everyone knew that.
What is yet to be seen if the PS3 can keep the momentum up and sustain these sales. Sure there will be a bump from FFXIII in December but time will tell if the Japanese turn around and sell the system back like they usually do. Zelda OOT suffered this fate.

Just a note that I'm away for the weekend so the next numbers won't be up for at least a few days.

I picked up the "Xbox 360 Start Guide" and "Player's Guide Summer 2009" in Den Den town this week.
The games they had listed:

Need for Speed Shift - Sep 2009
Bayonetta - Fall 2009
Operation Flashpoint - Fall 2009
Tekken 6 - Fall 2009
UFC Undisputed - Fall 2009
Assassin's Creed 2 - Winter 2009
End of Eternity - Winter 2009
Lost Planet 2 - Winter 2009
Kiss on my Deity - TBA 2009
Samurai Spirits - TBA 2009
Splinter Cell - TBA 2009
Wet - TBA 2009
Castlevania - 2010
Halo Reach - 2010
Alan Wake - TBA
Dead Rising 2 - TBA
Forza 3 - TBA
Front Mission Evolve - TBA
Metal Gear Solid Rising - TBA
Project Natal - TBA
Riot Act 2 (Crackdown 2) - TBA
Lots of stuff but End of Eternity is the only thing that stands out, the new Tri-Ace RPG.

Bayonetta maybe. But yeah. MS is dead in the water as of now. Also Castlevania might go on name alone but who knows.

Left? They never had any to begin with. The titles they funded have done some good in raising brand awareness though. They'll be much better positioned for the next console generation... if Japan has a next console generation.
