heres the story, on gamasutra: http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25226

basically bethesda is suing them over their compilation pack fallout trilogy saying the numbering scheme will confuse it will fallout 3. when interplay sold the IP to bethesda, bethesda stipulated that they must approve all packaging and materials pertaining to re-releases of the old games. from what the suit says interplay hasnt been holding up their end of the bargain.

I have been seeing alot of backlash against bethesda and I felt I needed to comment on it. First off, I can totally see where bethesda is coming from, most parents are clueless when it comes to games, and if their kid asks for fallout 3 it could be really easy for them to confuse that with fallout trilogy.

Secondly, all the backlash against them is completely unwarranted, i see people saying how poor interplay is and its a shame they are just trying to make a little money off their old catalog after their company tanked in the early 2000's. What the fans dont know is that interplay has like 4 employees at the moment and they are all lawyers. From what I know none of them had anything to do with fallout and are just trying to cash in on the recent resurgence in popularity in the fallout franchise.

I have no sympathy for interplay, they basically sold their soul for 4 million bucks or whatever bethesda had to pay for the ip, bethesda made a killer game and now they are having seller's remorse over selling the fallout franchise for the equivalent of a box of cheerios.

I see where Bethsada is coming from. I am sad that they are angry over the release of Fallout on Gametap however, but it seems within their rights to be and Interplay is trying to play games.. without you know... making games.

Is Tim Langdell one of Interplay's employees now?
Except being sued instead of suing, although with the same level of asshatery.

Interplay is basically one dickhead desperately trying to milk the company name for an easy paycheck. I wondered what the deal was with the Fo1/2/T re-releases, as I was under the impression that Bethesda had the rights to everything, and had only optioned the MMO rights back to Interplay because they were still determined to milk FO even as they sold the whole thing down the river to make a quick buck.

I hope they get shut down. They should've been years ago, this continued necrotic shambling is just an insult to the people whose work made that name mean what it once did.

This makes me sad. They were such a great company back then :(.

i know part of the reason bethesda is trying to revoke the mmo rights of interplay is that they had FOUR employees up till april 2009 (the deadline to be past concept phase and real development has happened) and all of them were lawyers, they quick outsourced the team that was working on some other post apocalyptic mmo to pretend like they were doing something.

ya its sad that all this drama is hurting the fans but i think bethesda actually GIVES A SHIT about the license they spent money on and dont feel that the remnants of interplay are going to do anything but shovel out crap to ruin their investment.
