View Full Version : Aykroyd: Ghostbusters Picked up by Atari, Coming in 2009

Really, at this point someone should make a videogame about the making of the Ghostbusters videogame. Just a few of the key points in the life of this game:
Developer ZootFly begins development of a Ghostbusters game. Unfortunately they never bothered to contact Sony Pictures about acquiring the license.
ZootFly leaks a trailer for the game to the press, hoping to pressure Sony into letting them make the game
Sony says no, but the leaked trailer gins up enough interest in the property that Vivendi Universal licenses the property from Sony Pictures.
Vivendi merges with Blizzard to form Activision Blizzard. In the process they shed many games in the development pipeline, including 50 Cent, Brutal Legend, and Ghostbusters: The Game.
Buzz about the game is enough that Sony Pictures is reportedly trying to revive the movie franchise.
The newest twist: Dan Aykroyd told a Dallas radio station that the game has been rescued from limbo up by Atari, and it's coming out next year.

Cool the ghostbusters game looked solid. I thought it was already finished and just needed a distributor.. ah well at least its going to see light of day.

It seems like the GAME renewed Bill Murray's interest in the franchise....enough so to maybe make a 3rd film.
At Fullsail, my team was reeeeeeeeally close to making a squad-based Ghostbusters FPS for our final project. We pitched like 20 different games and had numerous panel discussions before we settled on making a Ratchet and Clank knockoff called WinDOH!....can't recall why GB got voted down.
In any case, I cannot wait to play this game, and I hope the extra time has given them time for polish. It would be unfortunate if the game got finished, and due to funding, it sat untouched this whole time.

i would love to see another ghostbusters movie...those guys had great chemistry...they are a bit old now but i'm sure they can still pull it off!

I was real disappointed that it got delayed, so I am happy to see that it will hopefully get put out. As for a 3rd movie, I dont know. I know that Bill Murray was the one mainly holding it back, but...I think that they may want to stop at 2 good movies, and not wreck it with a third.

Zootfly was never the developer of this game. They just created that proof of concept video from a while back. Vivendi was actually already negotiating the license when that video was leaked.
But whos picked up the good games that got dropped Ie brutal legend and dark athena

I know that Bill Murray was the one mainly holding it back, but...I think that they may want to stop at 2 good movies, and not wreck it with a third.

...What the hell ever happened to Rick? I always got a chuckle out of him in all the movies he was in, and I haven't seen or heard a damn thing about him in years. To the Wikipedia! :D
Edit: From his wiki: "I pulled out of making movies in about '96 or '97. I'm a single parent (Moranis' wife died in 1991 of liver cancer), and I just found that it was too difficult to manage raising my kids and doing the traveling involved in making movies. So I took a little bit of a break. And the little bit of a break turned into a longer break, and then I found that I really didn't miss it."
It makes me sad to think he wont be in any movies again. :(

The problem is Ghostbusters is one of the best comedies ever made. G2 didn't have much of a shot. It's still a lot of fun (all the characters are still good, it just sort of falls apart when the Statue of Liberty goes for a walk), but it doesn't measure up to the first.
I love those two movies. Bill Murray at the height of his powers.

Ghostbusters is, and always will be, a classic. One of my favorite films.
This game looked promising, but Atari publishing almost certainly means doom. :(

I'm glad I ran across this story because it reminded me of the radio station with the most ridiculously awesome radio show in the UNIVERSE gg Russ Martin. I'm tuned in online right now and can barely type through the laughter.

I know they do, but their track record has been pretty poor lately. Too many games rushed out the door early.
