Over the past four nights I've been playing Halo 3 to try and get the last few achievements especially the Lightswitch one which is win 50 matches to get to the rank of lieutenant. My target has not been anything crazy, just get 5xp per night which will see me get the achievement a day or two before ODST comes out.

Tonight I was playing as normal, not cheating or doing anything bad but BAM! up pops a message during the match which says I've been banned from earning XP for two weeks. I'm pretty pissed off at this, not because I want the achievement, but because I didn't cheat.

GRRR.. I just had to get that off my head.

That sux. Have you tried contacting Bungie via bungie.org?

Were you XP boosting? Were you playing in a game with a bunch of people who weren't moving (and gaining mad XP as a result)?

No boosting, everybody was moving as per normal. I had some great matches tonight too. I played about 12 matches and only won 5 (playing in team social skirmish).

I've not bothered contacting bungie about it, I figure they'll just spout some company line about banhammers and the like. I figure I'll just ride it out till I become unbanned and hope it doesn't happen again.

you know what you should do?
Go to Bungie and cover the executives in Strawberry Jam.
cover executives in Strawberry Jam.
Strawberry Jam.

I'm working on my powers of suggestion...did it work?

Were you playing any team games? I wonder if someone on your team cheated in some way.

Nope, sorry. It didn't work. Instead what I think I'm going to do is go to Bungie and cover the executives in strawberry jam.

DOH!!!

They were all team games I played, though a different random team each time. Suppose this explanation is possible though it seems harsh.

It did on me, apparently. I'm lying naked in a vat of strawberry jam with a bag of potatoes, a goat's hoof, a couple of toupees and a Barbie doll next to me with some latex gloves on my hands and weird stains on my chest.

Be careful next time, dude. You can fuck someone up with that shit!

No. You believe you were wronged, so you need to contact them and find out what's up. You can't just let them roll over you like that. Contact Bungie, ask what happened.

Not disputing it could be seen as an admission of guilt. Take that shit up the flagpole.

I agree. If you really weren't cheating or doing anything wrong then you should speak up. Bungie's detection for people tampering is apparently pretty good though so if you were doing something wrong, they'll probably point it out to you and could possibly drop the hammer even harder.

The way Bungie puts it, cheating pops up in their system like day glow neon Christmas lights. All I can figure is that you were on a team that had someone cheating, the losing team reported you all for cheating, and Bungie temp banned you all for it. It must have been something that they could prove, yet not able to pin down to one person on your team.

It's probably worth checking - if you don't actually know what you did wrong there's a good chance you'll do the same thing again, and I believe the next XP ban is permanent...

/edit - unnecessary stuff removed.

Are you sure about that? Looking at your game history (http://www.bungie.net/Stats/PlayerStatsHalo3.aspx?player=YetiXX), there's a group of five people all present in those games. If you were partied up with these people, and they did something fishy, you can be banned too, even if they're the ones cheating.

Why? It sounds like you had a hell of a time!

Actually you are right, I did party up at one point. I'd totally forgotten about that.

Anyway, I've fired a polite email off to Bungie asking what I did wrong (if I did do anything wrong), just so I don't repeat whatever I did again.

I'd imagine that's why you were temp-banned. They probably weren't sure if you were in with them on the cheating, and just slapped you on the wrist just to be sure. The others? Might be perma-banned.
