My feet are fucking killing me. If I'm going to spend 12 hours on my feet, 3 times a week, I'm gonna need better shoes. Recommend me some comfortable shoes.
No Crocs please. I may be a nurse, but I refuse to wear the damn things.

I thought you needed closed toed shoes for medical work, anyway?
When my wife (then-gf) worked as an intern I heard Dansko's were pretty popular. Could try those.
If you're looking for a more manly appearing shoe, probably something in a Danner or RedWing might suit you. I have some Danner 3/4 hikers that are pretty solid. :)

There are closed toed Crocs specifically for health care workers. I guess they had to make one since nurses are the only ones who buy Crocs nowadays.

For tennis shoes, I really like Skechers and Adidas.
As a nurse can you wear tennis shoes? Most nurses in my area do. That should make things easier. As for dress/casual shoes I have always found Born shoes to be comfortable but I doubt you can find a pair that will look good with a nurses uniform.

I'm wearing Adidas right now, and its slowly but surely tenderizing my feet every time I wear them to work. It's fine for intermittent periods of standing up, but I'm on my feet all day. You can't clean up shit sitting down.

I've had good luck with New Balance. They come in 2E and 4E sizes and since I have a wide foot, this is a key point in my purchasing decisions. They have some light hikers which are a heavy cross-training type shoe. They provide serious support and still have the comfort of a sport shoe.

I'm a dedicated wearer of Vans. Skate shoes are designed to handle abuse, after all. Don't waste any time with the canvas Vans, though. Just get the bulkiest looking ones in the store, and those ones will be comfortable, guaranteed.

You know socks play an important role in this too.

Another vote for New Balance from me. I've got wide feet as well and I've found them to be the most comfortable that don't fall apart in a year and actually come in the sizes I need.
I can tell you what not to get. Airwalks. I bought a pair almost a year ago when my New Balances were finally falling apart. I figured they'd be good since I owned a pair back in high school and they held up well, but that's not the case anymore apparently. I'll probably be replacing my shoes also here in the next couple weeks.

Get the Matt Bellamy gold-striped DSquareds. The only downside to those shoes is that they cost like, $500.

Me also. As far as skate shoes go, Vans last the longest and are the most comfortable for me. I'm pretty picky when it comes to covering my feet so when I find a brand I like I'll stick to them. In fact I still have a pair from circa 2000 that are in one piece and still as comfortable as slippers, so that's my endorsement :)

I think it's awesome that you're a nurse. You'll probably never treat me but I say thanks for serving others just the same.
There (http://www.most-comfortable-shoes.com/nurses_shoes.html) were some sites (http://www.scrubsgallery.com/nursing-shoes.html) that came (http://www.nursemates.com/) up in a quick (http://www.medicalshoes.com/index.shtml) search.
Personally, my ex would always swear by Dansko (http://www.dansko.com/#home) shoes.

For me I wear New Balance or Redwings, both provide good arch support and fit comfortably all day long.

I love my Puma's, also an Adidas fan. Of course I sit on my ass all day in front of a computer like a good worker bee so what do I know. I wear a pair of Adidas Cup '68's and love them. Light weight and feet my skinny feet.

I wear Adidas Sambas, the regular kind. They also have the kangaroo leather ones, but I've never tried those. These shoes have served me well for a few years now, and they show no signs of slowing down.

Socks are for wussies that don't love the feel of hot sweaty leather against their skin!

When I worked in a place that basically required standing for 8 hours on concrete is was buying in-soles for my shoes that helped my feet. I bought some nice steel toed shoes but it was the in-soles that truly helped me in the end.

Simple makes very comfortable, but pricey shoes.

If you want comfort/support for being on your feet all day, I would suggest grabbing a good pair of tennis shoes, specifically cross trainers. Compared to running shoes they'll give more support and last longer. Most people don't realize that even good running shoes are designed to make it through one season, at max.
As for brand, buy the one that fits your feet. I have to bounce companies every couple of years as their shapes change. Right now I'm running in Mizuno as they are currently the king for people with skinny feet and slightly higher arches. Go to a real specialty running store where they will fit the shoe to you.

Another vote for Van's here, though if you are standing for that long, you probably would want some additional arch support as the Van's are pretty flat. Those shoes take about a week to get worn in so the padding isn't strangling your foot, but after that they are awesome.

Close to Van's... I haven't worn anything except Globes for a few years now. They are just the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn, while still letting you feel everything underfoot. Might not work for everyone, though my brother seems to have taken to them and he has all sorts of walking/ankle problems from time to time.

New Balance is a great brand of shoes. Incredibly comfortable for medical jobs, those are what I wear at the dialysis centers. Excellent support and feel. Support is everything if you're on your feet for 12+ hrs a day. A good pair is $40-60. Go to Big 5 Sporting Goods.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy Vans for this line of work. They have awful support compared to crosstrainers or running shoes. Some people above mentioned Adidas Puma/Samba... those are also really comfortable. Definitely stay away from skate shoes, though.

Good advice! I just picked up a pair of last season's NB 411's at Big 5 for $39. Sure beats $59-$74 for this season's style!

I've got some NB 570's, they're really great shoes. I too got them for about $40. Big 5's pricing and selection rocks. :D

I have a pair of skate shoes, and it's not something I'd wear to the hospital. They're way too flat to be standing on continuously for me. I'm giving serious consideration to New Balance. Gotta have that arch support.
In the meantime, I'll just pick up some Dr. Scholls for my current kicks. I can't last another shift in the shoes I'm currently using for work (a pair of Adidas).

As far as arch support goes, it is hard to beat Asics.

Shoes for crews (https://www.shoesforcrews.com), I have heard GREAT things about. This is coming from the Food Service industry, not nursing; however the slip resistance is supposed to be incredible, the support is supposed to be good, they don't LOOK like nursing shoes, and they're not crazily priced.
I worked at a club where the kitchen staff talked their boss into setting up a corporate account and deducting their orders from their checks. I mean, nuts for these things. I'm looking to get a pair of hawks (http://www.shoesforcrews.com/sfc3/index.cfm?changeWebsite=US_en&route=c_store.viewDetailsOfProduct&partnumber=8026) in a week or so if you'd like a report.
