Looks like the official PAX (http://twitter.com/official_pax) twitter feed has confirmed, Swine Flu was at PAX. If you are not feeling well, please go to a doctor. For those of you who were there, hit up the vitamin C, zinc and any other preventative meds you can think of.

Just heard of our first test-confirmed swine flu case at the show. PLEASE if you feel symptoms (fever, etc) go to the doctor.

Thanks SadiePepper!

Yeah, just when you think you're safe you realize the cold was keeping the other virus at bay. You are doomed! DOOMED I SAY! Better go chug down the bakon vodka.

I wasn't pointing any fingers, I was just passing info along. We have zero confirmed CoGgers getting H1N1 from PAX, I just want to make sure everyone gets checked out so if they do have it, they get the proper medical attention.

I would say no one should panic at this point, just call your doctor, make an appointment to get checked out and get plenty of rest. If you were at PAX and you do confirm H1N1, please let us and probably the PAX people know.

I wasn't pointing any fingers, chill, wasn't saying you were!

Unfortunately, H1N1 is so prevalent here on campus that they've stopped actually testing for it unless you have an extremely severe case. They're also telling us not to go to the doctor anymore unless we have underlying health conditions. It's craziness.

I think my immune system got it taken care of in a day. It was weird, thought I was getting something as soon as I got home, but 42 hours after arriving home (which included 22 hours of work) and all I've dealt with has been a headache and exhaustion from the drive home. You know that George Carlin bit about immune systems? I think that's me.

And no, I didn't go around licking random gamers. I only lick gamers I like :D

Oh SHIT son! The list of flights on the front page? Yeah, Seattle to Pheonix on Monday was one of MY flights. I've got a super scratchy throat and I'm all plugged up today, but my gf had that before I even left for PAX, so I'm thinking I prolly just got it from her and it needed a few days to incubate. No H1N1 for me.

Hey, I know Scott and one or two other COGers got sick and missed a day of the show, right? Anyone heard from them? How they holding up?

Lastly, I know this is off-topic, but I'm putting together a short video/slideshow of the pics I have from PAX. I'll have it up later this week and I'll throw it in the photos thread.

Great meeting you all!

Yeah, I know how that goes. I almost never travel long distances without my wife. She is an excellent travel companion and it's usually pretty easy to convince her to go most of the places I want to go. Short distances are another matter entirely. I drive a lot by myself but they are pretty set routes so I'm never hard to find.

It's funny, I used to do whatever I wanted when I wanted but now that my life has a fairly set routine it's very jarring when the routine is disturbed.

There isn't anything the doctors can do at this point if it has been 48 hours since the infection, correct? So going to the doctor would just be proving that you do have H1N1?

Hmmm, just got an email from my wife saying she is not feeling well. Details to come. Odd she would get con SARS before me, she was only there one day. I am starting to feel a little tickle in my lungs. I think I may have contracted Scott's bronchitis. No surprise there, I tend to get bronchitis at least once a year.

EDIT: Her response to my surprise was "I win." God, I love that woman. LOL!

EDIT 2: Nevermind, false alarm. I won't go into details but yeah, not the flu or anything else.

Here in the UK where everyone and their mad cow has had swine flu they advise against seeing a doctor if you have the symptoms. For one, it just spreads it further. For two, the anti-virals at most by that point will knock a day off (and probably give you side effects), and for three, it's really not that big a deal.

I had all the symptoms a couple of weeks ago and just worked from home.

Actually, my work required me to go see a fancy pants doctor. She said it was most likely a generic viral flu, and that it was too late to test for H1N1 since it has to be done within 48 hours of contraction. Anyway, she wants me to take the rest of the week off of work, so I guess that's good.

http://art.penny-arcade.com/photos/644193998_GFtjt-L.jpgYou may have heard that we had an unannounced guest (http://www.penny-arcade.com/2009/9/7/feeling-sick/) at this year's PAX, a creature of global reach and renown - H1N1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swine_influenza#In_humans), whose Gamertag is Swine Flu. The last time I talked to Gabriel he was taking Scott (http://www.pvponline.com/) to a clinic of some kind, and he suggested that I begin canvassing immediately for guest content - enough to cover an absence of unknown duration. We wrote a strip for Wednesday, but he was physically unable to raise a pen, and so I have begun to release strips from our strategic reserve. Here (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/9/9/) is Penny Arcade as interpreted by FoxTrot (http://www.foxtrot.com/)'s Bill Amend. More strips will follow. I hoping I'll have enough jpegs to contain the fullness of the contagion.

I had that combo back in grade school. From the sounds of it this is what Mike (Gabriel) has as well (and probably Kurtz too). You can't move a muscle and what really sucked for me back then is they could give me no antibiotics because the flu would get rid of it. Only once the flu was gone could I take an antibiotic to get rid of the bronchitis. Think I was out of school for over a week.

Things have probably changed nowadays though. For me it was late 80s/early 90s.

Back when Swine flu was first being reported I got a flu with bad bronchitis... It messed my throat so badly that I lost my voice for almost 3 weeks, with a lingering cough for even longer. The flu part was easy compared to that.

So who knows what I have. It started showing up as I woke up from my second flight on my way home Monday night. I went to work on Tuesday and it wasn't too bad, save for the 8 hour headache. When I got home, I went straight to bed and slept for 12 hours. Woke up this morning and found that my temperature was an even 102°. This is the first time I have called in sick in over 3 years :(. I slept more this afternoon, waking up feeling better overall, but with a sore throat. Hopefully I will wake up for work tomorrow feeling well enough to go in. There is a ton of stuff I need to do since my position is changing next week. :(

Edit: Consars, flu, whatever. I figure the normal take care of myself, get fluids, rest and vitamin C should work. If it doesn't then maybe I will consider going to the doctor, but if I hear one more "oh noes, you may have swine flu" I may scream. How many times do I have to explain that there really isn't much difference from the normal flu. "but the swine flu has killed like 500 peoples!" oh misguided fools, you hurt my brain.

The treatment for Swine Flu is the same as the treatment for normal flu:

If your fever is 103 or higher, or you have a pre-existing condition (like asthma, or anemia) go to the doctor. If you don't fit into one of those categories: stay home, stay hydrated, stay warm and stay comfortable. Take aspirin or Tylenol to control the fever, robitussin or Mucinex to control the cough, and sudafed to unclog your nose. Nothing you can get OTC will speed the course of the infection at all, and even the few prescription drugs really don't help that much.
