View Full Version : Sony Working on PS3 v3.0 Firmware Issues

While the response to the changes in Sony's v3.0 system update for the PS3 has been mixed at best, most of the negatives so far reported have been related to game-stopping bugs in titles such as Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, along with some irritating Trophy anomalies. In an effort to quell the seething masses, Sony has admitted to there being problems and is actively working on a fix (probably not a reversion to v2.8, though).

SCEA is aware of reports that PS3 owners are experiencing isolated issues with their PS3 system since installing the most recent system software update (v3.00). Rest assured that we are looking into the matter and will provide an update here as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, as it’s our mission to deliver the best consumer experience on all PlayStation platforms. - PlayStation.blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/09/update-on-ps3-firmware-3-00/)While these issues are annoying, at least there are no reports so far of the firmware causing PS3s to cease working altogether.

good ol sony. release before testing. i updated and was able to sign in. haven't tried any games yet.

I don't think I've actually played any games since 3.0 came out, but I did have trouble signing in.

I haven't played anything since the update but I hate the new larger font. I wish that could be user adjustable.

A simple option to scale the fonts would be a quick and easy fix. I bought a 1080p TV for a reason, let me use it dammit. Now it almost looks like the XMB is in 720p mode while on my 1080p TV, and it just looks too blown up for my liking.

And get rid of the ticker please.

I bought Far Cry 2 the other day for $20 and have had no problems with it or LBP since the update. I ask that we be able to make the font smaller, that's all. I have no issues with the ticker, it's tiny and out of the way.

The Uncharted thing was a pain in the ass. I had to uninstall the 1.10 patch to get it to run longer than 5 min. even then it would still randomly freeze. Once the game froze it would continue to do so (even after a system reboot) until I reinstalled the patch loaded up a game played for a couple min until it froze then uninstalled the patch again.

I haven't had any noticeable issues with Infamous and as much as I'd like to blame the shittyness of Killzone 2 on the update we all know that would be a lie.

I had Uncharted freeze on me back when it first came out. Maybe it's just an inherent timing bug that's been exacerbated by the firmware patch (which would still be a "bad thing").

It could be, all's I know is I played from chapter one to the middle of chapter eight with no issues at all I then installed the system update and finished chapter eight and it started freezing a couple minutes into chapter nine every time I tried to play. Thinking it was an issue with the disc or that location I loaded up an older game and it froze a couple minutes in as well. I uninstalled and reinstalled the patch with no change, the only way I was able to play the game from then on was to remove the patch completely and then repeat the process outlined in my previous post every time it froze which was normally after about an hour to an hour and a half of gameplay.

Pretty much, I was able to beat it but having to jump through hoops every hour or so to keep it running wasn't the funnest.

I played (and beat) uncharted last night while running the 3.0 firmware and had no problems at all. I am running the slim, so that may be something to do with it. But I don't have any problems with any games so far.

I just installed 3.0 and no problems so far, knock on wood. I even have an imported white Dualshock that seems to be working fine. I loaned out my copy of Uncharted, however, so I can't really test that.

You played through the entire game last night from beginning to end in one sitting?

3.0 corrupted my Wipeout HD file and I was forced to delete it.Was this a new file or one that you transferred from the fatty? I wonder if there are games that are being affected after being transferred from the fat system to the slim.

prior to 3.0 update i insert a dvd and its auto starts... now i get to see the fking "Whats New" screen - my system settings are still "Auto disc start = on"

i hate you sony. i don't need to know what the fuck is new.

Some games don't allow saves to be transferred between systems.

It's a under system settings ->Display [What's New] w/on or off.

Fist thing I did going to 3.0 was to look for options to turn this and the ticker off. Too bad there is no ticker option.

Not ideal, but could have been worse.

Whatever firmware it was that was required for resistance 2 bricked my ps3.

I believe you have to turn on Disc Auto-Start.

Settings --> System Settings --> Disc Auto-Start.

I'm not sure if it was off by default.

Well, lump me in those that has Uncharted freeze on them. I got past the boat part and the thing froze on me when I got to the cooridinates in the jungle. This is on a Slim with 3.0 and a brand new save. I'd already beaten the game on my old PS3 so this isn't a huge deal, but still annoying. I got the Yellow Light of Death on the previous PS3 (60 gig system, sadly!) so I never got a chance to back anything up.

What really annoys me is that Singstar purchases are tied to the console, so all of the money I spent is just gone.

They should be able to get your songs back to you after you jump through a few hoops and sacrifice a chicken. Sorry, no amount of chicken sacrifices will solve the Uncharted issues.

Well, the good news is that my PS3 won't stay on for over 30 minutes without freezing, so I guess I'm saved from making that tough decision :mad:

It was from the fatty. Ironically, the Uncharted file was fine but I don't have the disc anymore. So maybe it was the combo of both the transfer from the fatty and the 3.0 update.

Some games don't allow saves to be transferred between systems.

Yeah, I couldn't transfer Fat Princess for some stupid reason.
