One of the best movies ever made is now available to watch on Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/watch/37987/the-professional).

Totally my favorite film of all time.

Which version is on there? The US cut or international?

Awesome! For anyone who hasn't seen it, you should probably watch it as soon as possible. If I hadn't already seen it 500 times, I'd be watching it right now.

(Also, I love that this is the second time I've seen a Gary Oldman gif posted here this week. I love that man. Seriously.)

By comparing the runtimes, I have determined that it is, in fact, the cut-down US version.

It is, indeed, the butchered US version.

That is pretty sweet. Although I personally like the 'Leon' version better, it's great that people can learn about the ring trick on Hulu.

I'm gonna watch this tomorrow night! I was sure I'd seen it in college sometime, but it either made no impression or I never did see it.

This is a film I stumbled upon sometime last year and it was fantastic. It was the Leon The Professional that I had seen, not sure of the differences between the 2 films.

Isn't Free on Hulu redundant?

It also should be mentioned, this is for people in the US only. We punish the brits for not letting us see Dr. Who from the bbc web site.

Here's the Wikipedia explanation:
There is also a long version of the film, referred to as "international version" or "version intégrale". It is sometimes called the "Director's Cut" but Besson refers to the original version as the Director's Cut and the new version as "The Long Version". The name "international version" comes from the fact that only this version was released in Japan [7]. It has approximately 23 minutes of additional footage that was removed from the original release. The additional material is found in the film's second act, and it depicts more of the interactions and relationship between Léon and Mathilda. In one scene, Mathilda plays Russian Roulette to try to get Léon to admit he loves her; in another, she openly asks him to be her first lover, but he refuses, although they do share a bed. In another scene he teaches Mathilda the "Ring Trick" which involves knocking on peoples door and breaking the chain after the occupant opens the door, and in the advent of the occupant fighting back or refuses to open, and becomes violent he throws a grenade, when he does he shows Mathilda the pin. There is also a detailed scene in which Leon teaches Mathilda where to shoot the target, demonstrating on a cocaine dealer and maker, and that you should never shoot them in the face, because doing so would render an ID impossible. After he kills the dealer Mathilda burns all the drugs using lighter fluid. He also refers to a past romantic relationship he once had that ended in tragedy that started his career as a hitman. Most of the other material in the longer cut involves Mathilda accompanying Léon on several of his hits, to further her training.

Yeah I have the long version. I just didn't know what was missing because I don't remember what was missing. I just love Stansfield.

Me, too, even though he's a cold-blooded killer. I nearly named my computer "Stansfield." Right now, it's name is actually "Gary Oldman" because I joked that I'd name it after him, and I never came up with a real name. I also thought of naming it "Steve Buscemi." :D

My favorite Oldman movie is also on Hulu, The Fifth Element!

Shit, wait, he's in TDK and Batman Begins too. Ah, damnit. Okay, NOT MY FAVORITE, but close.

It has been awhile since I saw JFK, but I would have to go with his portrayal of Dracula as my favorite.

Well I was just going on overall quality of the movie, not just Oldman's role. My mom creeps me out when she goes on about him in Dracula, ugh.

As over the top as it was, Oldman's performance in the Fifth Element is still one of my favorites. The Professional is equally good.

Rini, you're a Buscemi fan too? I love how his remains get smaller in each successive Coen movie. "And I guess that was yer accomplice in the wood chipper?"

Of course! Honestly, I think Oldman and Buscemi are two of the most underrated actors out there right now. I've also loved Robert Downey, Jr. for some time now, but with Iron Man and all, he's been getting all the recognition he deserves.

I actually think it's really funny that Steve Buscemi dies in most Coen brothers movies he's in, regardless of how small his role is in the movie.

I'm looking at you, Miller's Crossing! :p

If you haven't seen this movie before definitely watch the international cut. The extra scenes are essential to the story and character.

This is one of my favorite crime movies ever. Leon is such a cool character, and Jean Reno plays him perfectly. Gary Oldman is a great psychopath, although I feel like this movie and The Fifth Element typecast him in that role. Fantastic film.

I love this film. I had to get a friend from IRC to send me this movie on DVD (back before I had a CC for eBay) because I think to this day it hasn't been released in Australia. Then when I saw there was the 'deluxe' edition, I had to get him to send me that too.

I love Hulu so much.

I got pissed off at work today, said 'fuck this' and sat and watched Starship Troopers for the better part of the afternoon.

I...Hulu...I love....uuhhh..

I started watching this the other night. I came back today, expecting to have to wait for it to stream a bit, and guess as to where I left off...

But Hulu already knew! Awesome.

You know, I thought Oldman was kinda cool and quirky, but his performance as Commisioner Gordon seals the deal for me.

Gordon is one of my very favorite comic book characters. And Oldman plays him perfectly as I imagine him - tough, smart, compassionate, and human - he has his failings and his troubles like anybody else. He's a damned good cop but that doesn't mean he's always right or even that he always thinks he's right. He has an unflagging sense of right and wrong and won't give up on those.

I dunno if I have a man crush on him. Kinda weird. But he definitely makes most movies more interesting, and he always performs a complete transformation for each role.
