So, I have a Macbook Pro and a home pc that I use for multimedia purposes (sometimes game on but not as much because there's no good way to do it).
Anyway...

I dropped snow leopard on my MBP last night to update it ($30 is about right for the software btw) and now my sync program (windows live sync) will not logon through the mac anymore.
So, I did a bit of research and found that SL broke compatibility with windows live sync as well as mesh but we've not heard anything on a fix or anything...
So now I'm scrambling.
I use the sync program for two really good reasons.
1. consistent content for both machines (if I want to listen to my mp3s on my stereo I can, and if I want to switch over to the laptop...boom, there).
2. backup for really important documents/music/pictures over my network.

and now I'm at a loss...I have no way to do this.
I'm looking at sugarsync, but it's a pay service and I don't need a pay service.
I just need to be able to sync 4 folders between the two computers (eventually three, but that's not for a while).
help?

Have you tried Dropbox (www.getdropbox.com)? I know they've been testing a Snow Leopard version of their client.

Mac users have finally learned the golden lesson when it comes to technology; Don't update unless you're sure.

Isn't there a way to use MobileMe on Windows now? I know it's also a pay service, and I might just be hallucinating having seen that somewhere, but you could look into that. One thing's for sure, it's mostly guaranteed Apple won't break THAT one on update (unless they decide to rebrand it again. ;) )

$99/year is too much and the space is too small
Besides, I just want the two sets of folders to sync locally.
These are large files and don't need to go over the interwebs to come right back home.
they really have to go literally the distance of about 20'. but I don't want to have to do it manually. I want an automatic sync

You get like 2GB for free, what do you need to sync?

What is Mesh?

Depending on how technical you are you can probably setup an rsync job.

I'm sure this client that is now broken will be updated for Snow Leopard soon.

What about just streaming your music library through iTunes in the meantime? Dropbox for the smaller files?

I would imagine Mac users know this lesson more than anyone. Backward compatibility is Microsoft's mantra, Apple's is cutting legacy as soon as possible.
