Rifts.
Enough said. That gawd damn world has about 8,000,000 ideas.
What about you?
Oh and maybe Dragonlance but that is slowly passing into history.

I want to see someone take a stab at a solid Sci Fi MMO. I know that there have been rumors of Relic working on a 40K MMO have gone around for a couple of years now.

There was a rumour about Fading Suns which is basically a 40k but with even more background and a slightly more Dune feel to it.
But it died out too.

I thought THQ was doing the 40K MMO?
But that gets my vote. Tons of universe history to it, strong emphasis on kicking ass, etc.

I'm right there with you on that one. That or Shadowrun would be awesome.

Hoping Otherland turns out well; that's a serious attempt at an MMO that breaks the standard cliches and formulas.

Song of Ice and Fire.
No, I don't know how to do it.
Just do it.

Hopefully it is a dreadfully deep single player game with the character fighting to gain levels and soon command their own ships thus spreading to Multi

I like to call it Pokemon World.

This.
It's why I'm really hoping WAR will do well; I want to see a 40k version given the green light, only I'd like to toy with the idea of each player running a squad instead of a single avatar. It'd be pretty interesting to see what could happen there. From what I understand, WAR is starting to better give the impression that there's a full-scale war going on. I think the best thing to further that impression would be to go from "hero" units that look like they should be unique but aren't to squads of actual soldiers, that can then be individually outfitted at the squad and soldier level. Futhermore, as a player progresses, you can gain access to hero units that can be the leader of the squad or can fight on their own temporarily (kinda like the monster mode in LOTRO, except you'd still be on the same team).

Sword of Shanarra MMO
so much good material to make a great game there...
in the meantime i'll also wait and see what Boiware coughs up next week.
I enjoyed SWG prior to the NGE fiasco. I can only imagine a Bioware SWG being infinitely more polished.

You sir win.
Edit: OK that's just an AWESOME idea. *pumps fist* We need to make it so.

Back in the 90s I played this RTS game a lot...I think it was called War-something. I dunno, I've always thought that would be really cool and popular if they made it into an MMO.

The writers have stopped the strike, you can hire them back now.

Hell yes!
and each time you used magic it would alter your character on some small but permanent basis!
Who wouldn't want to shout "Epic Creeper Raiding party seeks another Druid" ;)

The squad idea was used in that canned MMO by some ex-Blizzard guy called Steig Hedlund. Gods & Heroes.

This game never got off the ground, right? That's a shame. I still say it'd be an awesome way to bring about a 40k MMO

I was going to say Shadowrun, but Rifts would be a great world as well.

I would like to see a 40k MMO... Done like Planetside. None of these lame quests, just a lot of drop pods and shooting people in the face.

Yeah, I am going to have to agree with those that said Shadowrun or Warhammer 40K. Or William Gibson's Sprawl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sprawl).
Something in a setting like that may actually get me to play an MMO for more that a few days.

I'm hoping the briefly mentioned Firefly MMO turns out well.
If that fails, I'd just like the see another Planetside type game. It's a surprisingly under-populated genre, and it wouldn't even be hard to do something better than Planetside with the combination of new technology and the fact that Planetside sucks these days.

Except the world of Gods and Heroes didn't seem that the world was built for squads with heroes.
I want the 40k MMO.
With squads... and no pointless running around the damn zone. You ride a drop pod in and you are on hub area ships otherwise. It should be both instance heavy and rely on an open world, depending on the zone.
However, I don't think the squad should be customizable as a party replacement. If your class is flamer... your squad will be flamers. If you heal, they heal.

That got the axe awhile back, instead the same team is now working on a Buffy MMO, I believe.
40K MMO was apparently being made by the same people that did the DOW Series, so it would be developed by Relic and Published by THQ.

According to the last Press Release they are working on both.
And and interview I found on Google.

I've been dying for a RIFTS MMO for fucking years, but I've stopped holding my breath after the N-Gage RIFTS game was announced. Apparently it was a decent game, but it became clear how Palladium Books (mis)handles their licensing. They sold off the rights for a RIFTS movie to Jerry Bruckheimer's production company about 5 years ago with absolutely no progress being made. Who knows who has the game rights to RIFTS now, or if Palladium would license it to someone else. Kevin Siembieda (RIFTS creator, Palladium Books founder, etc) is notorious for having everything RIFTS related fit his view of what it should be. Seems unlikely he would give up creative control to anyone else. Unless, the licensing states the devs would have to follow the source material. I think they did that on the N-Gage game, which from what I hear, basically an animated version of a traditional pen and paper game. Not what I'm looking for with a modern RIFTS game.
Still looking foward to the day I can pilot a Glitter Boy and fire the boom gun at a 30ft dragon. Or, have my Techno-Wizard use a glider over a ley line. Or, have a Shifter summon an elemental to take out a squadron of Dead Boys at the Siege of Tolkien. Or....
Fuck. Not good to get worked up over a game that will probably never see the light of day.

Another vote for a 40K MMO. Or at the least something not fantasy. Tabula Rasa doesn't seem to have gathered any sort of a critical mass, and EVE just felt too empty to me. So yes, a little 40K should do nicely.

Ooooh, a 40K MMO with squads that functioned like the pets in WoW? Awesome. Start out as a grunt, prove yourself by leveling to whatever level, get command of your first squad. Badass.
