What is everyone using for burning software in Windows 7 or do you just use what is built in? I'm interested in something a little more robust but I don't want a lot of bloat. I'd also like it to be able to mount an ISO.

What about Antivirus / Spyware protection? Any good cheap or free software that isn't a system hog?

Windows 7 has introduced the ability to burn ISO directly from the shell, however, I still use Nero as my burning application as it's probably the nicest thing I've used. CDBurner XP also works in Windows 7 - and is free, so it's right around the correct place.

As for Antivirus, in both 32-bit and 64-bit, I'm running Avast antivirus, I've also tried Avira with good results.

Edit: Forgot ISO mounting tools, try SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive.

Image Burn, Power ISO and Avast.

Exactly!

Though windows has a built-in ISO burner and the DVD maker thing is great

Yeah. You don't really need Image Burn but I have used it forever and it is a nice piece of software. And I donated...so now I feel entitled.

Same here on both counts.

To mount images, you can get the free version of DaemonTools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/home) (it's popular among software pirates but it works great as a regular mounter), or a similar app; it's been a while since I've had to mount anything, and I always had payware like Alcohol 120% and MagicDisc for that.

It's worked ever since the beta for me in 32 and 64 versions. I still get the incompatible message when I install but I've never actually had any problems.

Anyway, that's my vote. D-tools has always been my go-to mounting program.

Daemon Tools supports Win 7 since the SPTD version 1.58 and DT version 4.30, as far as I recall.

I use ImgBurn and MagicDisc for all my dvd writing and mounting needs.

I have been using an old version of NOD32 (v 2.7) on my desktop and it works perfectly fine with Win 7.

For my net book running Win 7 32 bit I chose the free version of Avira. Seems to be running okay so far.

Was hoping to compare the two AVs to see if there's a notable difference in detection rate.

I would've said NOD32, but it does not work on my 64-bit OS.

I am using F-Secure Internet Security and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware, plus Spyware Blaster. No problems at all and no resource hogging whatsoever.

NOD32 v 2.7 has been working perfectly fine on my end, with Windows 7 64 bit RC since May.

I switched to avast with the recent wipe and reinstall, and was deeply impressed at the better detection rate, namely because it found shit AVG didn't. There's really no reason to use AVG at this point, it's a piece of shit. The only thing AVG's ever given me is false positives, when there's actually something wrong, it never flags a thing.

For image burning I've always used DeepBurner. It's free, super fast, easy to use. To the extent that if I get an image in something other than ISO, I'll often just use a converter and make it one, and then burn it in DB.

I haven't used AVG for almost 6 months now, ever since their Central DB server for the Linkscanner module went flaky and gave me massive browsing issues. I use avast now and have been pleased.

For burning I almost exclusively use the built-in. When that fails me (and it only has once) I pull out Nero.

Not quite the same, but I don't want to create a new thread... I just installed 7 yesterday. What do you guys use for a media player? I'm looking for an alternative to Winamp. Just made the switch to avast because of this thread too.

I just use WMP. The new interface is basically iTunes, but without having to install Apple software. And the built in codec support is great, I don't actually have to install anything to get most all my vids to work.

Though for some reason in RC, spacebar to pause is broken. I've gotten it to do it like, 2 or 3 times maybe, most of the time it just ignores me. I wonder if they've fixed that in the RTM?

I love WMP 12 myself, though I still get the Community Codec Patch to make sure I don't run into a video I can't play. Although I can confirm that what J Arcane says above is true. The spacebar to pause does not work in 64bit RC.

I just checked and it doesn't work in my 32bit RTM copy either.
