Microsoft has increased the price of the XBox360 Arcade by £30.00 in the UK bring the price to £159.00 from £129.00. This along side confirming news that the XBox360 Elite will retain a £30.00 price cut to £199.00 from £229.00. They cite exchange rate fluctuations and local market trends as reason for the unusual move. Price bumping is new grounds for Microsoft.
We have not made upward adjustments to the trade price of consoles before. A modest increase on the trade price of Xbox 360 Arcade consoles in EMEA allows us to offset exchange rate fluctuations and changes in local market conditions while still offering the most affordable console on the market
When combined with the Elite price drop, it seems more like a tactical marketing strategy than just adjustments for exchange rate fluctuations. No announcements have yet been made suggesting a change in the XBox360 Arcade package.
