Basilisk Games has provided us with some new screens from their upcoming isometric RPG Eschalon: Book II. The sequel to the cult fave from 2007 will include improved visuals, new challenges and more varied difficulties.
Eschalon: Book II will be released for PC, Mac and Linux later this year.

I was thinking about this game the other day. I haven't heard anything since we had our collective playthroughs of the first title. It looks good and many of the features have been upgraded from the original.
In case someone asks, you can disable the hunger/thirst system if you're like me and hate any game where you have to deal with it. One of the screens shows how you can customize some of the game's options. Also, movement speed was increased.
Thanks Doc, I'll be waiting for the release eagerly. And to anyone on the fence or unawares of these games: If you like old school RPGs, you really should at least give it a shot. I had a blast with the original.

Is there much of a story to the games?

Gotta support the game. I still haven't bought the first, so I'm not one to talk. :(

Actually, yes. I found the first one to have a good story. There was even a twist moment where you discover something that made me think "Wow, didn't expect that."
That's just my opinion, so YMMV. I'd say dig up our old Eschalon 1 thread except it gets pretty spoiler-filled. Their developer even dropped in and talked to us and asked our opinions/suggestions about the game. They deserve our support, mostly because the game is pretty damn good imo.

OK cool. Well being on Mac is a big thing since that's the platform I own and bootcamp is a pain. I almost always need a story in my RPGs, even if it's of middling quality (like a lot of JRPGs).

Did anyone think I WOULDN'T show up in this thread? :D
I absolutely loved every minute of the first game, and I'm picking this one up on Day 1. Playing through it with the community here was a lot of fun.
I'm looking forward to doing the same with the second game. :)
Here is the epic first Eschalon thread, for anyone who is interested:

Edit - I'm pretty sure all of those screens were previously available, but looking at them still gave me chills.

I did an interview with Basilisk for immortal machines awhile back and will asnwer alot of your questions about it.
I haven't heard anything about when I will start beta testing though, so no idea when this will go live....I heard this winter was the target.
edit: ahh here is the interview...btw trying to get a follow up...but I haven't heard from him in awhile.

I'm really tempted to read through our playthrough thread again, just to get even more pumped about the sequel.

I have Book 1 on Steam, but I've barely played it. I picked it up because it was cheap and then it got buried under an avalanche of other titles. I may fire it up again later today.

You must! It really is one of the best CRPGs of the last several years. Not that there has been much competition, outside of The Witcher.
Still, it's a fantastic game.
