You've all seen those tiny RC cars and helicopters that have made the rounds in toy stores over the last few years. Next up are tiny little hovercraft (http://toys.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00342).

The commercial for them looks like it has come out of F-Zero or WipEout. :D

Pretty freaking cool, I wonder how it does on water or transitions from solid to liquid. I guess maybe I might be expecting too much.
I also always wanted one of those Tiny Helicopters, but have never actually seen one.

The video does not show it going over water. Since it is so small, I would imagine that the smallest ripples/waves would cause trouble with the craft.

From what I read these are for pools and bathtubs. Mostly for kids.
The Helicopters are awesome indoors but can be a bitch to fly.
And cats hate them with a passion.

There's a video on the linked site (http://toys.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00342). Check it out for hovercraft-racing and drifting action.

Sounds awesome, like something you might use for a really bad effect in a b-movie.

Was it you that posted something similar, but bigger, back at EvAv? If so, did you ever get one of those?

It was I. I didn't get one of the other RC hovercraft, cause they were hobbiest models that ran close to $200. These are more my price range and attention span. ;)
I was working on my own hovercraft for awhile, roughly the size of an R/C car. I never got past the "air hockey puck" stage, which means I did get lift but never took it to propulsion and steering.
Still it was cool to push around the kitchen floor and mess with the cats. It was very similar to this:

But I used a fast RC car motor and battery, foam core board and a skirt made of trash bags.

Too bad, the big one looked awesome. Sell you PS3, I'm sure you'll get a lot more than $200 for a BC version today. :p

Somewhere around here... I have the plans that were sold out of the back of Boys Life magazine (http://www.hovercraft-aircar.com/), to build your own hovercraft with a vacuum-cleaner motor.

Ahh! Shockingly enough, The PS3 is something I'll keep coming back to for the next few years as exclusives trickle out. A hovercraft will get played for a month or two, then stuffed in a closet. :(
I've seen it happen too many times... and I've thrown away too many awesome toys to empty my closet for more.

Oh well, I was looking forward to reading about you constructing a huge Wipeout course and strapping some fireworks to the hovercraft, but I guess that just won't happen now. :(
Unless you make it a small course for this baby version!

I want to know how you can see inside my imagination. I have to admit.. the fireworks weren't there... but they are NOW! :D

RC Hovercraft sounds like he should write Cthulhu mythos stories.
