New IGC available here (http://ingamechat.net/audio/IGC20090818.mp3), for the low, low price of free.
And just like that, the PS3 is back in the game. We don’t mean to suggest that Sony was ever really on the ropes - our studio’s PS3 to 360 ratio is 4 to 3, after all - but they’re wouldn’t have been any gap to close against their competition if no ground had been lost in the first place. They’ve done well with the hearts and minds, now let’s hope that effort translates to some success in the market.
We’ve played things, of course, but it would happen that our backlog seems to spill out all over the place and make a nuisance of itself less than a week before we’ll be ignoring it for the sake of Batman. We’re deep in the throes of the first pre-release nerd-tension of the season, and any game that hasn’t been digested fully come Tuesday will have to take a number and wait.
And while we’re at it, it seems the show will have to wait as well. We’ll be recording on Thursday next week instead of Tuesday, for obvious reasons, so feel free to inundate us with opinions of and stories about your time in Arkham, if you like.

Will there be a pre-PAX episode the week of PAX or will next week's be the pre PAX episode?

We'll likely record an episode the Tuesday of PAX, and while we'll make mention of it, there are no guests planned or anything.

Good deal, I'll have something to listen to on the flight.

I've really been considering picking up a PS3 lately. After the price drop and the announcement of the Slim it's getting really tempting. I think I would have done so already if there was PS2 BC included in it. There are a few games I would really love to play on the PS2 and I don't feel like spending the extra $100 to pick up a PS2 but I might just have to. Sadly, I never got around to playing Ico when I had a PS2 and I got rid of it to play games on the Xbox with my friends so I missed a few awesome titles like Shadow of the Colossus, God of War 1 & 2, FFXII (the only released in the US FF that I haven't played) and I'm sure many more that I can't think of ATM. Do you guys think the PS2s relatively strong sales are a major factor in why the PS3 has no BC in the latest models? I'm thinking so but I'd love to hear your guys thoughts.

The PS3 is probably my absolute favorite console since the Dreamcast. Love the thing so much.

PS3 is my blu ray machine... I mean there aren't very many titles that I enjoy that are exclusive to the system. I recently played KZ2 and while the game is fucking pretty, my enjoyment of the game was quickly turned to frustration over a cramped feeling controller, no rumble out of the box (yes I'm still bitching about the cheap six axis "rumble is dead" controller that was packaged with my system), and few other gripes about game play mechanics.
As a blu ray player however it gets Aces!

Excellent show!
James, I really recommend giving Wolfenstein a shot, there's nothing broken about it, plus it can be pretty fun, if not a little underwhelming. But then again with the 0 hype surrounding it, it could be a sleeper hit.
I just checked my email, and Batman is on its way, looking forward to it, immensely. I will be sure to post my impressions, but the demo really did leave me wanting more. Although I felt the "detective mode" was jlittle more than just "objective vision".
Shadow complex is definitely a lot of fun, It's very hard to believe that this game is only an arcade game.
I enjoyed the talk about District 9 you had, and I agree with the sentiment of hating the main character through most of the movie.

In regards to the Beatles, I'm at a similar place. I don't particularly care for them. I appreciate how influential they were, and I think the game is a cool idea, but that's not really my bag. And James's suggestion for the U2 Guitar Hero/Rock Band made me think: if someone did that for the Dropkick Murphys and found a way to do an analog for the bag pipes, I would be all over that.

Count me in the group that doesn't give a shit about The Beatles. Everyone on other shows is acting like they've always been big Beatles fans for years now and I call bullshit. There's nothing wrong with hopping on the bandwagon and getting excited, but hearing 20-somethings act like they grew up listening to paperback writer, etc. just sounds like so much bullshit.
So anyway, will you be taping any kind of a show AT PAX this year? Like having a big group in the hotel room again? Or is that out?
*Forgot to add, thanks for giving the PS3 some serious time this week. Its nice to hear the crew at IGC get excited about the PS3 and its new hopeful future.

Of course it's bullshit. No one ever grew up listening to their parents' music, right? :|

My parents listened to gospel and Garth Brooks.
When I started finding my own music, The Beatles were one of the groups I latched onto. This was thanks to some input and influence ("with a little help" if you will) from my friends.

I grew up listening to classic rock, but not the Beatles, because my mom didn't like them, and my dad just didn't care one way or the other. I didn't "discover" them proper-like until my teenage years, when my uncle gave me his old CD collection, which included most of the Beatles' albums. I couldn't give a shit about the early stuff, but almost everything after 1965 or 1966 was pure brilliance to me. The "parents' record collection" thing was an example, but it's also perfectly plausible that these critics born predominantly in the late 70s and early 80s discovered the Beatles on their own as teenagers, as we did.
Anyway, suffice to say I'm mildly excited about Beatles RB. ;)

I did, sir. Enough country music to last me a lifetime. Funny thing is, when I got to high school and started listening to newer rock and alternative and all that, my folks got exposed to it and found out they liked it.

I blame this on just waking up, but I think I may have missed your point. Sarcasm?

My dad shocked the hell out of me one day by asking to listen to one of my Metallica CDs. So I figured okay, might as well do as my friend before me did, and start him on the best (Master of Puppets). He listened through the entire album without complaint, then said at the end that, much like Black Sabbath, it wasn't really his thing, but thanked me anyway. I give him a ton of credit for sitting through almost an hour of something he didn't really care for, when I might've turned it off after five minutes.
Dad and I bonded a lot over music as I went through my teenage years, actually. He knew all the songs that I had vague recollections of from my childhood, and could point me to particular albums or artists that I would like. I haven't been nearly as avid a music listener or collecter since he died. Even wound up giving away his turntable and record collection to a friend of mine who's a major vinyl junkie, which I partially regret now.

Oh, and I'm kind of upset that there wasn't even a cursory warning before dropping the Serenity spoilers. I was debating taking my headphones off when you started alluding to it, but I was waiting to see if there was a caution, or if you were going to talk around it, and by the time I decided to play it safe, the damage was already done. I understand the Statute of Limitations and all, but damn.

I owe my Dad my deep and abiding love for classic rock. He's also the guy I borrowed my Crow soundtrack from (he was a big fan of that movie, even went to work one year as Brandon Lee), and the Metallica Black album. My dad was fuckin' cool. He was an old rocker gone straight at heart.
It was another friend that turned me on to the Beatles, back when the Anthology thing first hit. I'd always thought I hated the Beatles, because I associated them with the cheesy boy band music of their earliest phase, but then he made me listen to all these albums and I'd hear song after song that I already loved and knew practically by heart from classic rock and oldies stations but never knew who'd written. They wrote so much music and were so influential and prolific and with such variety that frankly, saying you "hate the Beatles" more often than not just means you don't know how much of their stuff is actually out there.

Funny you guys mentioned Enemy Mine. A buddy of mine was queuing up some movies for his Watch Instantly on Netflix. I suggested Enemy Mine. He gave me a look and I said, "Seriously. Wonderful movie." He still didn't believe me. So he played the movie later that night, thinking it would be a good snoozer, something he could fall asleep to. He was cursing me the next day. "I didn't get to sleep until four in the morning, you bastard! I had to finish that movie."
