Serious Pie. Its like 0.7 miles from the con. Saw it on Food Network today and I guess they make some fuckin' rad looking pizza. I wanna go. I'm thinking maybe Sunday after the show? I dunno.
What other places are close by and awesome? And when are we going? :D

I know it's not close by, but you all NEED to Visit El Toro (http://www.yellowbook.com/profile/el-toro_1821095412.html?addressId=0) off of Pacific Avenue. It's about an hour from PAX, but if you can make it, it's like someone cut a chunk out of Mexico and dropped it in Washington. Best damn Mexican food I've ever had. There's another location, but the one off of Pac Ave is the one I always eat at.
You won't regret it.

Adding to my list of must visits. I believe, outside of the CoG's that live in Seattle I will be staying the longest - 9/2 to 9/9 - so this information is most excellent. Thanks!

Long Provincial is alright, I heard. It's like on 2nd and Stewart I think?
Way more choices if you can get out to the International District. I'm sure you could talk me into giving you a lift out there. :p By the looks of it, Shodan needs to set up camp out there, too. ;)
Damn, now I want Dim Sum. :o

LIAR, Having lived up there for almost 4 years, anyone from the pacific northwest tells you they found "great" mexican food is a liar, not willfully, they just don't know any better. ;) First thing I did when I got back to San Diego was eat real mexican food again.

No need to be hatin', just because there are no ___berto's stands around here... :o :D
Goddamn I miss their rolled taco's. The stand near the dorms would load us up on spicy pickled veggies, too. Sadists. :p

I used to take my kids down to the International District and we'd spend an afternoon shopping, sightseeing and hitting up little restaurants for Dim Sum. A little fish here, a little pork there, some squid at some other little cafe and usually ending up at Uwajimaya for sushi!

Sounds delicious. Do they do dim sum every day? I know a lot of places out here (granted much more rural) only do dim sum on weekends, or even just Sundays.

Yeah, I hate running into that problem. One of the locals might be able to verify (or I can ask my sister in law), but I think JG is daily, and it's supposed to be pretty good even on the weekdays. :)

Naw, it isn't bad at all, and it probably is some of the best I had in Seattle, but the further south you go (i.e. the closer to Mexico you get) the better the Mexican food becomes.

The best breakfast burritos I've ever had was literally out of a little plywood shack in the middle of a gravel lot in Los Alamos - run by 4 white boy metal heads. :D

Sandman speaks wisdom. I did have a great meal plus beer at Elysium (sp?) last year, but it cost me a lot of valuable time.

There was a Japanese restaurant (http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=japanese&find_loc=seattle%2C+WA&ns=1&rpp=10#places=WA%3ASeattle%3A%3ADowntown) that Rini and I went to that was pretty good. It was somewhere near Pike Place Market, but I can't seem to find it on Yelp/Google Maps.

Another piece of wisdom: if you must eat at peak meal hours walk at least a block or two in any direction from the convention center. Any food place within a block of the center had lines outside the door at meal times last year.
wyeast
08-20-2009, 02:26 PM
Yes, the fast food places right around the convention center are just about worthless anywhere near peak times. Even off-peak the stuff downstairs was pretty packed and/or slow. Better to hike further out, if only into the neighboring shopping malls (Pacific Place or Westlake Center). Also, pack a couple of Clif Bars into your kit, just in case you're stuck waiting in line for something and have to keep your blood sugar up.
Also - anyone considering the Dim Sum journey w/ astra and me, be warned. Such affairs can take up the entire morning, so if you're interested in coming along, don't hold any hopes of seeing anything at PAX before lunchtime. :o

The one sushi place a group of us went to Saturday after the Fallout 3 panel was pretty goo, though it was quite a walk down 1st Avenue.
There was also the BBQ place me, rini and pronounconnoun went to after the Mariners game about a block or two north of Pike's Place Market that had good happy hour stuff. OMG that mac and cheese was superfantastic.
But as people have said, you're pretty much gonna want to go to these awesome places before or after PAX, don't even try during PAX hours unless you want to miss out on stuff.

I'm calling it right now then, I'm going to Serious Pie on Sunday after doors close. Otherwise I'd have to be lookin at going on Thursday, but that's Von's and the BSP. Unless there'd be time after those? I dunno. Its my mission to fit in a trip to Serious Pie though. Their pizza just looked too awesome to pass up.

There was one place down First and one on the very edge of Pike Place Market (closest to the museum) that had pretty awesome Hawaiian Fish Tacos. I'm going to one, or both, with or without any of you, but it would be cool to have company.

I believe these were the two restaurants with Fish Tacos:

I accidentally found the Japanese restaurant that I referenced earlier:

These aren't going to be close enough to the convention center to be able to go to them and not miss stuff. If you want to take three to four hours out of your day to get there, eat, and get back to the convention center I will treat this seriously :p

We were definitely at Bap's panel. I was talking about whatever panel it was on Saturday that Backseat and a couple of others raced back to catch by taking a cab from where we were having lunch...

Bap's other panel? Was that the one that also had Wil Wheaton? I'm pretty sure that the reason for us not being there was the huge line that was already there, not the restaurant.

It's not *too* far from the convention center. (about as far as the Japanese place down by the water) I was planning on going there sometime, so I'd be down for it. Dunno about Sun (are we doing a post-show podcast again?), maybe Fri or Sat Dinner?
And yes, their pizza is awesome. :D
Going back to Dim Sum, I'll probably try to call in reservations so we're not delayed too long waiting for a table. (no idea how crowded it'll be on a Friday, but just to be sure) So I'm hoping to put together a rough headcount by Monday?
So far I've got me and Astra, DangerChan and Pronoun, and a couple of the homeys in Lynnwood. Anyone else?
(edit: Due to pressure to GET THE BAG, we could push to slightly later on Friday, say 11am reservations in order to get the goodies at the door before heading out? Or try for 9am and chance it getting back at noon?)

If there's stuff happening Sunday, I'll go to Serious Pie anytime I can find company, so long as its not interfering with the panels I want to hit. Most of my panels are on Friday, and the one I care about on Saturday isn't until 8:30 or 9:00.

That was after the Fallout 3 panel. Remember, since we snuck into that, then went over to the sushi place. We gonna sneak into the Star Wars: The Old Republic panel, then go to the sushi place this year?

I thought we snuck into it after coming back from sushi. Thrakker would know. He was slightly bitter about us being able to sneak in while he never made it into the panel, so he should be able to say if it was before or after sushi.

Joey and I went to a sushi joint last year, but we didn't get to go with you guys (I think Rogue called and left a message, but I didn't get reception till after the fact). This time around, I must be informed about any sushi outings at all costs. Sushi is seriously by ichiban suki food ever.

I think Alatheia told me the swag bags and concert wristbands were around the same time, so we should have both covered. :)
Does mean I'll have to park beforehand to get in line, then again when we get back from DimSum - I'm not sure of what the cab situation is out in International District (it's been a few years since I've been out there)
Anyone got a line on a cheap garage in the area and/or someplace reasonable with in/out privs? Otherwise I'll end up parking at a hotel ... beats paying twice to park at the convention center. :o

I'd be there early this year. PAX keeps growing and there's only a certain amount of wristbands. Front's pretty popular (Friday) and so are Freezepop and Coulton (Saturday).
