Some choice (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/sony-we-want-xbox-360-to-succeed-in-japan) quotes:

Sony's president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has said that he wants Microsoft's Xbox 360 to succeed in Japan in order to help push the concepts of high-definition gaming to local consumers.

...

"I like to see people here in Japan showing interest in high-definition gaming and more sophisticated gaming experiences," offered Yoshida, in an interview with our sister site Eurogamer.net.

...

And still on the subject of Microsoft, Yoshida admitted he's impressed with the New Xbox Experience, prefering the style of the avatars over Nintendo's Miis.

"I think it's quite nice. I like the avatar designs they're working on. Personally, Microsoft's work is closer to my personal preference. The Miis are very nice, but everybody looks cute, like Japanese-style characters," he said.

Here's (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=257142) the entire Eurogamer interview.

Holy crap! An interview in which the exec sounds sensible and level headed, and has a wide knowledge of modern gaming in general? What is this world coming to? What happened to flat out denial of your competitors achievements and canned marketing statements?

Nice interview though, what he says regarding the success of the 360 makes perfect sense actually.

Don't worry, it's only this one guy who replaced Phil Harrison. I love him but don't go around expecting Jack Tretton to start kissing babies and playing nice. He's going to continue being his retarded self along with his sidekick Scott Steinberg.

Yup yup. I posted about this interview (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=915) back on the 10th. But since it wasn't anti-Sony flamebait from me, people safely ignored it.

I don't think so. Shuhei Yoshida seems to come across as one of the few Sony execs with a proper head on his shoulders, connected and all! It is so refreshing. :D

Eh, I think for the most part people don't care much about interviews with execs unless they're announcing something important or they're saying something incredibly stupid.

Well, I give props when they are due. This guy gave an EXCELLENT interview. He was level-headed, respectful and sounds like he truly cares about the industry instead of just caring about his little kingdom. He had questions leveled at him that other Sony execs would have used as excuses to bash the competition, and Yoshida didn't.

Because, if more people embrace High-Definition gaming, Sony does better. If more people are interested in taking their games online, Sony benefits. If more people buy into the notion of downloading movies directly to their system, Sony wins.

If more people are only interested in waggle and don't care about the big-budget experience, Sony suffers. Sony's PS3 is much more similar to the 360 than the Wii.

why would they want people to buy HD movies online ? Wouldnt they rather blu-ray would more?

Looks like you and Sony need to have a little talk. Maybe you should have reminded them of such a thing before they launched their download movie service.

You buy a Bluray, Sony makes money.
You buy a movie from online through the PS3, Sony makes money.

I love Yoshida-san. I will never be able to quote him saying anything stupid. They need to gag Kaz, Jack Tretton, David Reeves, and Scott Steinberg and just let only this guy talk... all the time.
