View Full Version : Looking For a Place to play WoW

So....I've been seriously thinking about going back to WoW. My wife as well. We need a new server for us to make a home, (well, mostly me. She's just going to follow me with her paladin)...and here's what I was looking to do:
I love to raid, but I'm more about achievements and old world raids than anything else (Pre-BC Naxx will always be my fave though) So I was hoping to find a guild of people who play often, at night (PST-EST is fine...I'm in MST) and do both raiding and/or a lot of old world stuff and achievements.
I'd prefer a PvE server (I got sick of PvP a looooong time ago) and our characters are Horde. I've got a level 80 priest and as I said, she's got a paladin, level 67 or 72 (I can't remember)
Anyway, any guilds/groups out there interested or close to what I'm looking for? Or am I gonna have to try and make my own? :p

Kef has a casual Horde guild on Area 52. I have a character there, but am a WoW purge at the moment. I might get back into it soon, though.
Edit: that might be a PvP server, though...not 100% sure.

Nope, Area 52 is PvE...
See, my big thing is I want to find a good community to play with. I was on Arathor, and that is seriously the cesspit of all the WoW servers...even worse than Dark Iron was during the web comic wars. I can't stand that server anymore, and it was a major reason I simply up and left the game.

Alea Iacta Est is a great guild. It's the one started by the hosts of The Instance podcast. It's the largest guild in the US, so there are always people around at all times of the day and night, and they pretty much do everything there is to do in the game. There are multiple 10 and 25 man raiding groups at all levels of raiding. People routinely set up raids for old world content to get achievements or just have fun.
They're horde side on the RP server Earthen Ring, though RP is the one thing that they don't do all that much. I have a couple toons in the guild though I'm taking a hiatus for the moment. If you're largely casual I think you'll have fun there. You just need to find and connect with the people in the guild that are on at the same times as you and interested in the same kind of content.

Interesting. Sounds like the kind of thing I'm looking for, and I could care less if it's on an RP realm or not.
Application windows on the first week of every month....yeah no thanks. I'll keep looking..lol. I'm sure they're great, but I've never liked guilds that had really super strict application methods other than top tier end game raid guilds.

Sorry, but... am I the only one who read this wrong at first?

In their defense the first week limitation is to give the officers time to do things other than just guild submission approvals. It's nothing to do with elitism, merely a response to the amount of applications they receive.

Oh, I know...but the more I thought about it, the more it would be like a drop in a VERY large bucket.
I went to Winterhoof, and it's actually rather nice. Good people, easy going server, average economy...I like it so far.

No, I did the exact same thing.
Maybe worse, as I consider going back to WoW to be a bad thing, so I associated going back to his wife to be equally as bad.
To the OP, when I was having brief insanity earlier this week and considering it, I checked out the server lists and (I think) WoWiki had a list of all the servers, their type, and the main guilds/raiders and what they are like. It was helpful.

Yeah, I did a bit of research (all of 20 minutes :p) and went for Winterhoof. Did you know they reduced the transfer to THREE days now? It used to be Three Months, then a month, and now three days. Insane.
Still, I'm a part of a small brand new guild called 'Koopa Korps'. It's fun, just playing to play.

My research edned up at either Sha'tar or staying in Earthen Ring.
I always prefered the RP realms though, less l33t talk I noticed.

They can be real chat nazis on RP servers at times, I've noticed. If you talk OOC (Out of Character for those not in the 'know' :p) they really hammer on you sometimes over General chat. I don't mind RP at all (I like it, honestly), but restrictive rules like that and people overly enforcing them never appealed to me.
