I'm proud to say the temptation to use the word "swallowed" instead of acquired was never there...

In any case, Gamecock Media Group has been acquired by South Peak Interactive.

Commenting on the acquisition, Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak, stated, “Gamecock brings us a solid slate of upcoming titles, including Legendary, Mushroom Men and Velvet Assassin and supports our strategy of working with independent developers. We are excited to give the Gamecock titles a bigger platform to succeed.”

"We are thrilled to be joining forces with SouthPeak to continue to bring great original titles from independent developers to market with a stronger sales and distribution reach,” said Mike Wilson, CEO of Gamecock. “We have followed each other's progress closely over the last two years, and combining our team with theirs results in a very strong and well-rounded force in the market."

And that's all folks... Novelty publishers for the win?

Well I'll refrain from saying what we're all thinking. Though I do hope this works out well for the developers. After seeing this trailer I'm cautiously optimistic about Mushroom Men.

Has Gamecock published anything good at all? I can't think of a single game I liked from them.

Mushroom Men has gotten some good hype, and Velvet Assassin at least has an interesting premise. Otherwise, I can't think of anything that really stands out.

There's something about using what looks like Force powers in Mushroom Men. Plus the Les Claypool soundtrack. I may not shell out $50 for it, but I'll happily snatch it up in the $30 price range.

The publishers of Two Worlds can buy people out?

I haven't particularly been impressed with Gamecock myself. They certainly like to talk big, but haven't really delivered yet. I do find it kind of ironic that a company who likes to present themselves as being such a revolutionary, visionary developer got bought out by the company that brought us Two Worlds, widely lambasted as being derivative and uninspired (just saying what I've heard, haven't played the game myself).

The scuttlebutt amongst the in-crowd is that a big reason for this is the extremely low sales of Hail To The Chimp.

As of June, between 360 and PS3, Hail to the Chimp had some less than 600 copies.

Ouch. Apparently, Pirates vs Ninjas Dodgeball on XBLA didn't do much better.

I just hope that Mike Wilson gets Shit-Canned. Him and John Romero can take a cyanide capsule for the good of the species.

I played the demo for Two Worlds. That's all I needed.

You mean Hail to the Chimp wasn't a blockbuster? I'm shocked.

Yeah, no surprise there. 600 copies is an abysmally low number however. I doubt they even made back the Xbox licensing costs on that.

Yeah, that's pathetically low. If this were EvAv I'd have to make a remark about how the console market must be doomed if a game can't even sell 600 copies across multiple platforms. :p
