Activision has announced that they are publishing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the Wii this fall. Yes, you read that correctly. We're talking about the previous Modern Warfare game that came out in 2007.
The game will be developed by Treyarch and will drop day and date with Infinity Ward's upcoming Modern Warfare 2 on November 11th 10th.

I have to admit, as much as it kinda sucks that we Wii owners are getting a port of a two-year-old PS3/360 game, I'm looking forward to it. I've ignored every previous CoD game because I'm sick to death of WWII shooters. I've wanted a more modern FPS on the Wii, and I'm glad we're finally getting it.

Woah, whut?
That is odd. I know a ton of Wii owners who are frothing at the mouth for more FPS, and will probably eat this up. But I'm still like... whut?

Completely unexpected.
Edit: The saddest part of this is that the sales of the Wii version will be way behind the other two. Activision may look at the whacked-out sales sales and say, "Well, nobody purchased Call of Duty on the Wii, so may as well stop making it." No matter that they tried to foist off a port of a 2-year-old game as new.

After reading the comments on Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5330124/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-comes-to-wii-this-november), it sounds like World at War was actually quite good on Wii. Anyone here play it?

Im just not understanding people wanting FPS on the wii. It just doesn't fit to me. I think the other consoles are much more fitting for it, and xbox is cheap as hell now. So why not just buy the console, instead of the game, which may cost about 1/3 of the cost of a whole console.
Don't get me wrong, I love the wii, I just wish they'd stick with games that make better use of its capabilities, instead of trying to compete in the market with FPS games and the like, when consoles clearly have that taken care of.

Anyone here play it?A couple of my co-workers have, and they really liked it. They said it has solid controls and is fun as hell to play. I had the opportunity to try it out myself, but declined because I'm sick of WWII FPS games.

The Wii can handle FPS games just fine. ;)

Uh, doesn't MW 2 come out on the 10th, not the 11th ?

This is true, I have not played that. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot.

Might as well wait for the Metroid Prime: Trilogy to hit the Wii later this month, as it has all of the MP games reworked for the same control scheme as MP 3.

Modern Warfare had such longevity because of the great multiplayer, something the Wii hasn't really proved it can handle at all.

Because playing an FPS with a gamepad sucks. ;)

I know a person or two who would disagree with that. (Me being one of them. ;))

When done correctly, the Wii can give you pinpoint accuracy similar to a mouse, instead of dragging analogue sticks on the consoles. The only systems I will even consider getting FPSs for are the Wii and the PC.

Quite a bit, actually. It's a really solid port. One of the best looking FPS games on the Wii, frequently rivaling The Conduit for "wow, that's pretty" moments and having IMO significantly better gameplay in many places. Controls are good, and perhaps most importantly the online mode (1) doesn't use friend codes, and (2) uses the same rank and perk system that the 360/PS3/PC versions of the game do. You customize loadouts, call artillery and attack dogs, all that good stuff. There aren't as many gametypes or voice chat, but aside from that it's pretty much the full COD multiplayer experience.
Honestly, the only problem with World at War on Wii is that it isn't Modern Warfare. Assuming they do it well, this should help considerably with that. ;)
EDIT: As others have mentioned, those who think FPS games "don't work" on Wii clearly haven't played a well-made one. My recommendations on that front: The Conduit, World at War, Medal of Honor Heroes 2, Metroid Prime: Corruption.
Having played World at War on PC, Wii and 360, I favor the PC most, but I would take the Wii version and its controls over the 360 one.

Well, keep in mind, I really don't like dual-analog FPS control. ;) But it definitely is worth trying out.

So they are releasing the old game at the same time as the new game. It feels slightly shady to me.

Agreed. I've had it since launch and play MP pretty much every night but the only reason I beat SP is because XBL went down that one Xmas and I couldn't play MP.
Also, I wonder how many people will buy this mistakenly thinking it's MW2.

It's SOP these days...with 20-year-old games. 2-year-old games? Eh, it makes me a bit itchy, because it seems calculated to take advantage of people's ignorance (since most people buying for the Wii probably aren't the sort who read forums and whatnot).

The Conduit is decent. I was really excited for it, was let down, and now have come to terms with it as a pretty good game. The controls are excellent and the tech is pretty good - there's some gorgeous moments in it, though a lot of the design is kind of bland.
Best thing I can say about it is that the multiplayer feels more like Goldeneye than anything I've played since Goldeneye. Really fun.
World at War is probably a better game overall, though, in almost every respect.

This is probably the best description I've heard of the Conduit. We should really have a CoG evening sometime. How about Wii Wednesdays?

I'm up for that if we can get enough people who have the game interested. There's a few folks over at Gamers With Jobs who I've played Conduit online with, there isn't a regular night for it or anything yet though. Is your Conduit code in the Friendodex / COG friend code database? Mine is in both, I believe.
Also, if you don't have Wii Speak, we'd want either Skype or Ventrilo or some other voice chat solution set up, I imagine. Actually we might want that even if you do, since you can't route Wii Speak to a headset.

Well crap, I hope it wasn't about convincing you to buy The Conduit. If it was, we totally fucked that up. ;)
Seriously, Conduit is fine, just not amazing. If you're going to play multiplayer I'd bump "fine" up to "good". Either way, it's well worth picking up when the price goes down to $30 or so, I just don't think the single player mode is all that amazing, that's all.
I wrote some longer impressions over here (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showpost.php?p=302219&postcount=282) if you want to read them.

I doubt anyone who's likely to buy this is going to be that concerned about how long other versions may have been out.
