Those of who get by just fine, thank-you-very-much, without Microsoft's bloated Office suite can rejoice... Open Office 3.0 is here!
The site is being absolutely HAMMERED right now, so go ahead and download it from this link (http://openoffice.org/).
Enjoy!

Great software package. I'll be interested to see what 3.0 offers.

I'll install it but I never used the OO 2 on my computer now. <shrug>

I'll wait until they have the kinks ironed out.

What's wrong with MSO? 2007 is damn fine.

I've been using Open Office for a couple years now, and it's pretty damn impressive software. Nothing against MS Office (my roommate works at Microsoft), but if you are looking for a free alternative, Open Office is pretty amazing.

Office 2003 is still a beast, but someday I'll give OpenOffice a whirl.

GoodDOCs FTW. :)
No seriously, Open Office is fine, but I really really like Google Docs.

Indeed, but some people can't afford or justify spending money on it when OpenOffice serves their needs almost or just as well.
I managed to get a legit copy of Office 2007 Ultimate for around £40 through one of MS's academic programs, so I'm pretty much set. I did download OO3 though, and what struck me most was how damn quickly it starts up. Big improvement over 2.

That sealed it for me then. I hate how long it takes to open files sometimes.

I've been using OO Writer since this release now and it has definitely replaced Word 2003 for me. The deal sealer: Being able to change the background colour. As far as I can tell, I can't do this in Word. And if I can, well I guess it isn't user-friendly enough. Word is just pretty bright all round and makes me feel uncomfortable using it. Can you guess I'm using lights out?;)
Haven't used any of the other apps in the bundle, but I still have MS Office 2003 on here if I prefer them.
Either way, it's decent competition to Microsoft to keep them on their toes and that has to be a good thing.
[edit] I still can't figure out how-to/if-you-can turn off the automatic bullet point/numbering function. I understand it's a great time saver for some, but I'm very much into total control over my documents. If I want to indent, I'll do it myself. Same theme as my major gripe with word.
Anyone know the answer?
