I'm trying to decide what platform I want to pick this up on. I can either grab it on Steam, or on my wii.
Does anyone know what the advantages / disadvantages of either is? All i know is that the PC version is 5$ more expensive. Normally this would be an easy decision (steam) for me..but with the price, and the fact that its alot easier to hook my wii up to the big screen & play w/ the wife than it is for my laptop, I'm just not sure.
Any suggestions?

I would purchase it for the PC, directly from 2dboy's site (http://www.2dboy.com). This way the three dudes get a bigger chunk of the profits. Also, I preordered it, so I'm lucky enough to have the full game already for PC. This is a game where I can't imagine the controls being better on the Wii; the mouse feels perfectly suited to what you're doing. The precision required makes me nervous about the Wii version.
And with no DRM, assuming you have two machines at the house, you can both play at the same time on two separate computers.

Does the PC version have LAN play?

Negative; the Wii multiplayer experience isn't there on the PC, from what I understand.

I almost forgot about this! Well there goes another $20... This fall will end me, I swear.

I just picked up World of Goo, and it exceeds any expectations I may have had. The presentation is top notch, the puzzles are already incredibly creative and challenging, and I know I'm going to go back to try and get better results on these. (They have some "OCD challenges" on each stage that seem exceedingly difficult, much higher than the minimum required to complete a stage.)
I'm playing the PC version, and it's also requiring some pretty specific mouse movements; anybody with the Wii version know how that holds up?

I'll be picking up the Wii version tomorrow night, assuming I get a chance around putting together new furniture, watching House, M.D. and playing Counter-Strike with coworkers.
As far as I know, the only substantive differences between the Wii version and the PC version are the cooperative multiplayer in the Wii version that the PC doesn't have, and a $5 discount, with the Wii version checking in at $15 vs $20 on the PC.
Now, to my mind, that's more game for less money, especially since I'm hoping my wife will want to play this one with me. But as daniel rightly says, less of that money is going to the creators (boo), and the controls may be insufficient (though early reviews don't seem to indicate that).
I'll post impressions as soon as I can, either tomorrow night or later this Wiik.
...I'm so sorry.

So you are going to invite some bros over, give them wiimotes and have them splatter goo all over the screen?

I've been playing the Wii version for the past hour. It's a lot of fun and I would almost say it's up there with Braid and Lost Winds for best atmospheric DLC game this year. I'm almost suprised that there's not that much buzz surrounding the game, but I suppose the focus is on all the new games coming out this holiday season.
Still for $15 it's a good deal. I do want to warn you that playing with the Wii remote and trying to get the goo precisely where you want it isn't as efficient as it is with a mouse and sometimes it'll take a few extra seconds for the goo to "snap" right where you want it, but it's still handled pretty well.

It's hard to judge just yet, but this is probably the best WiiWare title next to LostWinds. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it's damn good nonetheless.

Jeez, this game is addicting. Just one more level before bed turned into me spending a half hour shoring up my Tower of Goo to be more stable (Woo, I'm in the top 500! :D). Now to get more extra goos...

Lol. Actually I think it's a game that my wife would like to play with me, so she'll set me up to splatter the goo. We'd either play lan or on the wii. So I guess that this game is better off on the wii though.

Ha, I got into the top 500 last night.....then everything toppled over.
I've completed all of the first world, but only completed one of the OCD challenges. This game is a blast, I'm going to need to get some extra goo of my own tonight.

Bought it on Wii Ware this morning. Probably the 1st Wii Ware game worth buying since Lost Winds.

Mega Man 9 wasn't bad either.
As for World of Goo, I plan on picking up the Wii version tonight.

Yeah, but it's appeal is pretty narrow. Lost Winds and World of Goo are games that anyone can, and should, enjoy.

If I remember right the PC version is the only one with leaderboards. Leaderboards > Local Multiplayer.
I'm picking this up tonight on Steam as I like not having to worry about where I keep my downloads safe.

Are you joking? Leaderboards are pretty stupid, and only the top 100 or so people really care about them.

I am going with TFO on this one. I couldn't possibly care less about online leaderboards but local multiplayer is rather important to me, especially with the relative dearth of local multiplayer titles recently.
About the only thing I feel I am missing is the Goo towers at the title screen, but I doubt I will be taking the time to see mine make that page anyway, what with the way the internet seems to breed impossibly high scores. That is the way it works right, the top so many make the title page?
I'm trying to decide what platform I want to pick this up on.
There's a comparison on the Brainy Gamer here (http://www.brainygamer.com/the_brainy_gamer/2008/10/ive-got-goo-on-my-wii.html). He recommends the Wii version, and gives his reasons for doing so.

I can happily confirm that the Wii version is awesome, and that the controls work fine. I had no problem with the precision, and for rapid movement I think I might actually prefer it to a mouse, simply because rapidly clicking, holding, and dragging a mouse a long distance often makes my wrist hurt before too long, where that doesn't happen with the Wiimote.
Sadly, my wife declined to try it with me so far, so I have no local co-op impressions yet. But I am patient, and someday I will get to try it. ;) As for leaderboards, I don't know because I didn't go into World of Goo Corp yet, but articles here (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=18223) and here (http://www.wiiware-world.com/news/2008/08/2d_boy_interview_world_of_goo) both indicate that the Wii version does have Goo Corp leaderboards, just without usernames and not for each level.
<On the Wii> Entries will appear as clouds in the sky to mark the tower height and will show the country flag of the player and how many goo balls they used to build that tower. The PC version will also show the names of the players and will have a leaderboard for every level of the game.
If you don't excessively care about the leaderboard thing and have a Wii, I would recommend the Wii version without hesitation. The control is good, it's arguably the best thing on WiiWare, it's $15 instead of $20, it has local multiplayer. Hard to complain about getting more for less.

You can always buy the NA version directly from 2dboy's Website (http://www.2dboy.com), assuming that you're able to use paypal over there (I've never done any paypal stuff across the pond, so I dunno whether they have a problem with it). Though the EU release will have an extra chapter according to their FAQ (http://www.2dboy.com/faq.php).

i went to check out the website to see if i could pick it up there after posting but they only do paypal... for some reason it refuses to let me update my card info after i had one stolen and had to cancel it and get a new one. I don't even know if it would let me buy it if i could in fact use pay pal anyway... there may be some lock on buying with UK cards ore some such
edit, oh the faq says i can buy it from there site if paypal wasn't evil

I'm about 3 hours in. I like the missions but I have to say that I love the Goo Corp freeform part the best. Great game.
