It costs me exactly $5711 in subscription costs per year with 36 accounts on the 6 month pay schedule. Not bad considering I'm looking at it like it's a hobby and there are more expensive hobbies out there than World of Warcraft.
32 of my shaman are level 61. One shaman that I had before I started the 32 is at level 70 along with 8 other level 70 classes that I had. My mage, priest and druid are in the center of the circle of shaman in the pictures but they are kind of hard to see. I've also got some mages and priests that I'm currently working on that are level 23. Once they are at level 31.9, I will stop working on them, get 16 of them to level 60 with the recruit-a-friend bonus levels and work on the shaman again.
When Wrath of the Lich King is released, I plan to be at the store when it opens and will purchase 36 copies of it. With tax, it should be about $1500 for all of them. Then the shaman are on their way to level 80 along with the priest, druid and mage.
By the way, I have 9 level 80 shaman created on the Murmur PvP realm in the Wrath of the Lich King beta. I mainly tried it out to see how well my computers would work as they are. With the exception of one my desktop computers, I should be fine with the hardware that I have.

I really want to know how he keeps all that equipment cool. Does he crank the AC up and close the vents in the other room or something?

I'm pretty sure he'd have to be independently wealthy to have that kind of money, and that kind of free time.

I saw a video on multiboxing and it's ridiculous. I don't know why you would want to play an MMO if you want to do everything by yourself.
This guy needs to take the $1500 he was going to spend on WotLK and the $5711 he spends on annual subscription dues and donate it to Child's Play. Then he needs to get a new hobby.

Eh, It's the dudes money. If he wants to blow extra cash on it, regardless of how much it is, who are we to say it's right or wrong.

How is this any worse than someone who spends a lot of their time and money with a hobby like fixing up cars or motorcycles?
Just because it involves videogames, doesn't automatically make it "sad".

Probably because you ultimately have nothing to show for it. I love video games, I've been playing them since I was two (now twenty-four) and I'm a HUGE fan of MMO's. I've invested a lot of time in them over the years and a lot in WoW specifically. But what do you have to show for it? If you fix up motorcycles, you have a badass, fast motorcycle that will be with you for a long time that you could potentially pass on to your children. You have a valuable skill (fixing motorcycles) that can be put to use to get yourself a job you may like or even pass on to your kids for some bonding experience. There's countless ways that you actually have something to show for your time and your money.
What do you have after they shut down the WoW servers however long from now? 150 boxes of waste (WoW, BC, WotLK), thousands of dollars, thousands of hours of your time down the (inter)tubes. WoW isn't a skill or a material object that can be passed down, not to mention stuff like this doesn't promote human interaction. I'm incredibly non-social, but that doesn't mean I think this guy is doing a great job. Ultimately, he's not going to be interacting with his friends, talking about what a great PvP experience he had with them or a great grouping experience raiding or doing whatever, which is one of the reasons I like to play MMO's. So I can get together with the one or two of my real friends that play and shoot the shit with them about what a great time we had.

Not a marketable skill? Tell that to these guys (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52651/).
I agree with you by the way. MMOs can be a fun way to spend some time, but the people who spend days and tens of thousands of dollars building their own personal army are taking the game too far.

...and I felt sheepish quad-boxing DAoC.
Bard+druid+mana-ment+mana-chanter=farming any PvE content in the game other than the dragons, or powerleveling any character you want to max level in 3 days back then.
When I got tired of farming/pleveling I would buff a nightshade with the druid, leave the druid at the keep and then use the bard to take him wherever I need him, add a 2nd layer of buffs and then hide the bard in a milefort.
