GOD DAMN IT!
They had to put Sultans Of Swing in there. GAH. Now I HAVE to play the game. I'm not buying it, mind you, but the inclusion of Dire Straits means I'll at least have to take the game for a spin.

Ooh...Du Hast will be fun if for nothing other than singing along in terrible (mostly made up) German words while we play it!

There are, at the most, 10 songs that call my attention which means that I'll be renting this one. I would never spend $60 to play ten songs that'll eventually make it to Rock Band.

Shit there are some good tunes on here. If the game comes in with decent reviews I will most likely pick this up.
Wait...
Fucking Bob Dylan doing All Along the Watchtower?!?!? Urge to kill rising...

There is a lot to like about the list but I'll probably be spending my music game dollars on Beatles Rock Band this year. I'm excited about it but not near as excited as I was when Rock Band 2 came out. Maybe I finally burned myself out on the music game genre.

Wow...... Sultans of swing is pretty much the only song I like on there. As for rush can you stop putting the fucking overplayed songs and put some other stuff please.

On the Rammestein cd there was the original German version and then there was a lame English version where things didn't rhyme anymore and was just ugly. I wonder which version this will be? Hopefully the German version.

They have a whole track pack (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/0ccf02c2-0000-4000-8000-000045410829?cid=SLink) available for Rock Band, you know. :D

Yes, Sex on Fire is a good song to play. Nicer still that it's already been released as DLC for the better music game.
And god dammit! Plug In Baby?! Well shit.

I bought it last weekend too :)
I hate the fact the method I use to bypass my work filtering to access this site disables most javascript. That means no spoiler boxes, and Read More buttons not working. So I guess I'll check out the list later.
EDIT: Actually went through the "trouble" of viewing the list elsewhere. Mostly mediocre, or stuff I already have on RB2, until I got to Motley Crue - Looks That Kill. Fuckers, that is one song I really want. That, along with Blue Orchid and Nearly Lost You makes this slightly tempting, but not enough to get me to buy the game.

I thought I was getting too old for Guitar Hero or something, but I see a lot of similar reactions in this thread. Seriously, what the fuck. I don't know if there are ten songs on there that I give a shit about. Are we really that close to the bottom of the barrel already, or is this just Not For Me?

I love the setlist and I would be going apeshit... if this were Rock Band.
I can't deal with Guitar Hero's presentation not its "slighty-off" gameplay.

John Mellencamp? Wow. Judging by that list, this game is just trying to please everyone, but it sounds (from this thread) that they are not being very successful.
I want Sultans of Swing on Rock Band, and I'd be happy. Oh, and Under Pressure, too. :D

I will say many of the bands I want on RB have already been covered. What I would like to see more of is complete classic albums. One per week would be nice. I have stated before that I would pay $40 for Appetite For Destruction alone.

Yeah, I'd be more excited by albums too. I'd LOVE to see Smashing Pumpkin's Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness available, even just so I could play Jellybelly on drums. :D

This. There are maybe fifteen songs that are on this list that make me interested, and I'd gladly pay the 160 MS points each for them. But I really don't want to have to play the whole goddamned Guitar Hero 5 game to get them all. I hate how Guitar Hero plays.

It's worth mentioning that apparently all these songs will be available to play from the get-go, which I think is a fantastic idea. When your game is more of a content-delivery system than an actual game with a story, I always felt it was just archaic to require that everything was unlocked by playing all the songs in order.
It's not cool enough to get me to buy this game, though.

I don't see that at all. I'd say that maybe an 1/8th of what's on there is obscure. I see a few mediocre songs, but that is subjective so you are welcome to your opinion.

The large majority of the bands are not obscure, but the songs from the bands are. Many of those songs are not the traditional radio singles from the bands. Beyond anything else these games need to be party games, and to be party games you need to focus on the most well known songs from any particular artist. I simply think that this lists misses the mark significantly on that front, so perhaps "obscure" wasn't the best word choice.
*edit*
The more I look at it, the more I find that the bands I know well have songs I recognize and identify with those bands. However, I think I have a pretty wide music base, and there are a lot of bands on there that I simply don't recognize. Maybe you're just more of a music nut than I am.

To pick out one specifically, take Jimmy Eat World. I believe their biggest single is The Middle, but that was in Guitar Hero: World Tour (and Rock Band 2, and GH: On Tour Decades, and Rock Band Unplugged). So this time they needed something different and took Bleed American. I think other bands have the same issue.

Wow, they got Sunny Day Real Estate? I have to say that that's an impressive pick. Still, I just don't buy GH games any more. There are several songs there that I wish were in Rock Band though. Not a bad list, but not enough to make me interested in switching brands.

Yeah, GH's presentation bugs me now that I've played Rock Band, which just looks more refined and polished. GH looks very cartoony by comparison. That's fine for some people, I guess, just not for me. Not that that's enough to make me not want to buy a game that I would otherwise enjoy; just that it doesn't help matters when I'm already leaning towards, "pass."
The thing is, I would like to support some of the decisions Neversoft's made with this game, like drop-in/drop-out support, any-instrument play (finally, we can have three guitarists in our band!), and no more unlocking. This is shit I've been wanting since the very beginning, and I believe in voting with your wallet. There just aren't enough songs I know and like on there to justify spending C$70.

But doesn't Rock Band 2 do away with the unlocking? I haven't played nearly enough of RB2 but that's the impression that I get.
I'll still rent this to try out Sultans Of Swing but hopefully Dire Straits will finally put some songs over on the RB store.

I don't believe so. I don't recall having all the songs from the get-go, and there's an unlock code on GameFAQs.

Well there aren't any achievements in quickplay anyway, so I don't see the issue. People use to unlock code to bypass having to play the campaign and have immediate access to all of the songs in band quickplay mode, right?

Sure there are. You can get most of the song-related ones (get gold star/100% on Expert, 90s of Overdrive, etc) in quickplay. There are some campaign or challenge-specific achievements, but those that aren't can be had in quickplay.

The only problem with unlocking all songs from the beginning is that neither of these games has figured out a way to have a fun and compelling form of progression without them. There's no "game" in Guitar Hero anymore, so all you're left with is playing the songs for the sake of playing them, which wears thin. Unlockable rockers that look like ass, or clothing for my rocker that looks like ass doesn't cut it.
I was done with the last few GH games within a few days, and I suspect this one will be no different.

I don't know that there needs to be progression in a GH game anymore. Besides, every change they've made with this -- Miis Avatars, drop-in-drop-out, play any instrument, no unlocks -- are all screaming at the top their lungs "THIS IS A PARTY GAME NOW," and I'm totally fine with that. Get a few achievements, have some fun playing/mastering the songs you like, play with friends every now and then...what more do you need?
