On-Topic: October is pretty brutal, but next month holds the real gems (by that I mean Gears of War 2).

How can you loath web comics? It is just a format, under which tons of varied and completely different stories are released. Saying you loath web comics is like saying you loath books.

I have a pre-order in for LBP but if COD5's beta really draws my friends in like COD4 then I'll swap out for that.
Gotta go where my friends are.

I think I might have my own financial breakdown this fall. Each game cost $80 over here so it quickly adds up.
October: Fifa 08, Dead Space, Fable 2, Far Cry 2, LittleBigPlanet and Fallout 3 = $480
November: Quantum of Solace, Gears 2, CoD5, Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia, Left 4 Dead and TR: Underworld = $560
Total: $1040
Titles like Tomb Raider, Quantum of Solace and LittleBigPlanet might have to wait until next year.

I'm cutting back on my spending. I was going to buy Little Big Planet and Fable 2. Now I'm just Gameflying both. However, there is a good chance I will purchase LBP from them eventually.
The only other games I'm buying the rest of the year are Banjo 3, which I got an excellent deal on Amazon for $36 shipped w/ free Banjo 1 XBLA ($15 value) and Gears of War 2.
Everything else is rental territory.

Only game I'm getting this month is Fable 2 (which won out over Dead Space and Fallout 3 only because of the Amazon pre-order discount). I'm committing myself to finishing games before I buy new ones this holiday season.

You're not alone on the PA thing, though there are some webcomics I've enjoyed.
I'm cutting way back this Fall from previous years. I'm literally only buying what I'll be able to play when I actually get it. So this year it's LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Valkyria Chronicles, and Star Ocean: First Departure. If I have a little extra it'll go towards Sacred 2 for some co-op goodness with my wife.
I figure why buy games when they're just going to end up being half played anyway. I like to finish my games these days.

For me my list includes LBP which may be replaced with COD5 if all my friends fall in love with the Beta and get that game then I'll have to choose COD5 over LBP, then November is Gears of War 2 then GameFlying everything else.
I have a huge backlog of PS3 games to play still so if my PS3 friends all get LBP then I may pick it up in December. Also, I still have 360 games I have yet to play all the way through like Force Unleashed and Viva Pinata 2.

I just don't think the style of humor that the majority of web comics use (including Penny Arcade) is funny. The other portion consists of people trying ever so hard to be witty, but don't know what the fuck they are doing.

Oh and as far as games I'm getting, probably just Guitar Hero: World Tour. Dead Space I will rent or buy when it's cheap and Fable II and Far Cry II are also on my radar to get later. Fallout 3 hasn't convinced me yet.

Dude, read Achewood (www.achewood.com).
It's nothing like PA and the guy knows what he's doing.
Edit: I apologize for springing you with a webcomic. You said you don't like them. I just saw your reasons and thought "But that's not MY favorite!" I'm right here (your reasons hold no sway over Achewood), but I feel like a sheep braying at you. So...sorry.

There is no one sense of humor that web comics use. I read a wide variety of strips daily with a wide variety of styles. You are doing yourself a disservice by not exploring more. This sounds to me like someone saying they don't like video games because they tried Tetris and didn't like it.

I think these two are the highest on my list of video game priorities. Little Big Planet and Dead Space are also high, but slightly lower than those two, I'd say.
Guess there's one advantage to not liking most games coming out, I've got no month with an overload of purchase, my next possible purchase is in january :)

I was in finance panic mode about school and this October.
However, I just found out that I am actually going to *make* $2000 from grants and stuff this school year.
So, to celebrate, I bought Disgaea 3 tonight, I'll add Dead Space tomorrow (if they get it in stock, they fucking better.), and probably add Fallout 3 and LBP as well.
It's a good life.

This month seriously is brutal on the wallet. Saints Row 2 and Dead Space tomorrow, Rock Band 2 Special Edition on Sunday, and Castlevania: OoE and Fable 2, and Fallout 3 (Lunchbox edition) the following week.
As much as I hate doing this, I ended up trading a bunch of my old games and got over $230 of store credit (yeah I had a lot of shit). I paid off tomorrow's games and have some cash left-over so that should soften the blow. Then come next month when Mirrors Edge, Gears of War 2, and Left 4 Dead come out...
Oh yeah, and can't forget about December with Prince of Persia and Persona 4 coming out that month...
I'll have enough games to last me through the winter, no pun intended ;)

I'm really trying to hold off on Dead Space as I'm getting Fable 2 and Fallout 3 this month. I seriously can't handle how many games are coming out that I want. It's incredibly tough to decide. After this month, if the game doesn't have a demo, I probably won't be getting it. I just can't spend that much money without at least trying the game. Sadly, it looks like we won't be getting many demos for these other than Left 4 Dead, which I'm not really interested in anyway.

Rock Band 2.
That is all. I've yet to buy any of those games and I've been waiting for Rock Band 2 to try out 'fake drumming'. Otherwise no, nothing else really interests me so far. Besides, I can always pick all of those titles when they hit the bargain bin next holiday season. :0)
Far Cry 2 could be good, though.

My costs for October/November if I buy everything I want to buy will be upwards of £500.
But I'll probably give a few things a miss, as I won't get chance to play them all anyway.
I'll probably be skipping Gears 2, Dead Space and Saints Row 2 for a start.
The only ones I'm definitely picking up are Fallout 3, Fable 2, Red Alert 3 and Football Manager 2009.

Bioshock isn't worth buying, to be honest. It's a decent length (10 or so hours), but has very little replay ability (and it's overrated, but that's a different story). A good rental it is, but nothing more.

Disagreed. I think it is an excellent game with great atmosphere and story. Personally, length doesn't play too much into whether or not I will get a game, so long as it is good. While not instantly replayable, it is also the kind of game I will definitely go back to at a later date. If you do not have a PC or 360 to get it on, I would highly recommend getting the PS3 version.

Oh, man! That would be awesome. We could have a LBP theme (unless you were the one who tried the beta and didn't like it). If that's the case, how about an upcoming video game releases theme. There would be a lot of games to choose from!

Or they hold it hostage for the $100 repair fee. I'm pretty sure I heard something about people getting denied when MS claimed their box wasn't really a RRoD.

That actually temporarily fixes a red ring. Mine died right before the holidays last year and I used the towel trick to keep it running for an extra two weeks until it finally gave up entirely.

Exactly. Buying a game or not is too subjective. Personally, I very rarely rent games (usually to see if I want to buy it or not) because I simply don't have the time to sit and play one for hours on end before the rental is up. Even a short game I have trouble finishing in a week, and only then if I cram as much time as I can into it. Therefore, if a game amuses me, I buy it.

I've really cut back this fall too. Doesn't help that I have a $20K basement renovation I have to pay for ON TOP of videogames!
I limited myself to 6 games this fall. I did add two more to the list (SH: Homecoming and Yakuza 2) but I used credit to knock the price on Silent Hill down significantly and Yakuza 2 was only $30...
But yeah. I have Dead Space, LittleBigPlanet and Fable 2 this month, Chrono Trigger DS and Valkyria Chronicles in November and Persona 4 in December. That's it. I want Mirror's Edge and if I ever finish off Gears 1, I'd like to play Gears 2, but those will both be more than easy to find after Christmas.

What exactly is the problem with it? Mine was freezing on start up, but it wouldn't red ring. I didn't want to pay $100, so I left it for about a month, periodically starting it up with various hardware configurations, until it finally did red ring.
