Champions Online Open Beta Begins August 17

Cryptic Studios has announced that the open beta for their superhero MMO Champions Online will begin on August 17. Prospective players can guarantee a spot in the beta by preordering the game, but everyone else will have to hope they score one of the 50,000 beta keys being given out by Fileplanet (http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/champions-online/).

I am gonna assume they'll pull a CoH on us. Give us global handles (your login name for instance) and then just simply associate whatever name with that handle. Only in CoH, it was just a way of talking to friends on other servers.

That's exactly how it works. So if you create a character with the name Wonderbacon and your user handle is Hawkzombie you will be Wonderbacon@Hawkzombie, but the @Hawkzombie will not be visible in normal channels.

I'm so pissed about this I preordered the game got a beta card when I did. On the card it tells you goto the web site and enter all your details...nowhere does it say wait until the 17th. the front of the card says join the beta and become a champion today! god damn today has numerous meanings;)
