View Full Version : Why do I do this to myself?

I think I have a problem...

I keep on buying games. More than I'll ever be able to devote a reasonable amount of time to.

I'm currently playing:
Diablo 2 - Median XL mod
Persona 4
Civilization 4
World of Warcraft

Yes, that's four of the most addictive games in the world. At the same time.

And I just decided to "have a quick look" on Impulse, which naturally resulted in me buying...4 new games (well, 3 and an expansion). Because, you know, I feel like I don't have enough to play right now...

I bought:
Tropico Reloaded
Capitalism 2
Crusader Kings & Crusader Kings: Deus Vult

I think I must have gaming ADD or something.

Anyway; no time to type any more. I have a few games to play!

Let me know when you want to play some Civ4.

Screw all of them and play through Persona 4.

Oh, and in case I'm not around when you finish it: You're welcome.

Well, you can either:

Buy fewer games.
Play more games.

I think the choice is clear. (I'm definitely in the same position.)

I know how it goes. It took much self control, but I have not purchased a game in a while. I am forcing myself to play through all reasonably decent games in my queue before I buy new. Some games are just not worth playing;)

You certainly aren't alone. I just bought 'Splosion Man, Mirror's Edge and 2 titles Kelegacy picked up for me FarCry 2 and Eternal Sonata. What i'm playing is in constant flux since I have so much to play. I think places like Steam, Impulse etc with their sales or lowering of prices on games constantly doesn't help either. Just being able to download a boatload of games for a cheap price certainly is alluring.

Heh, I was gonna install Civ 4 on my laptop, then realized that it only has a shitty 64mb video card and 256mb of RAM so instead installed Civ 3. You just don't know how awesome Civ 4 is until you try and go back to play Civ 3. Even with as awesome as Civ 3 was, it's just not Civ 4. So now I'm thinking I need to just go ahead and buy more RAM for my laptop.:p

Oh and about gaming ADD. I've found that I have it as well. I find myself staring at my stack of games for like 20 minutes trying to decide what to play. Knowing damn well that no matter what I choose, I will play it for less time than I spent deciding, then turn it off and just watch TV. I never did finish Persona 4. Condemned 2 is sitting in my 360 unfinished. I'm now thinking about putting Fallout 3 back in for another whirl.

Many of us are in your boat. :)

I could stop buying games for the rest of my life, and at my current completion rate not finish all that I have. I've slowed my purchases to a mere trickle as a result.

I'm in this boat as well. I've been pretty good the last few months about not buying games, although I recently broke down and got Trine and Company of Heroes, neither of which I will ever regret. Civilization 4 is next in my queue.

However, my *massive* console backlog makes me feel so guilty. I also haven't even given any real time to The Witcher yet, though I really should.

I forgot about Civ III. ADDGirl just bought me a copy so that too is sitting waiting to be played. I told myself I have to finish off The Longest Journey first since that was lingering from last July according to my last save. I'm a Civ noob so (only played Civ Rev) I dying to take a crack at it.

See, I do that too. Perfect example, I started Lost Odyssey again...only to get lost in other games. I think I need to throw a sheet over my pile of shame so it's not constantly staring at me while I play.

Good to know I'm far from the only one. :)

I forgot about The Witcher. I was really enjoying that game and then I stopped for whatever reason and I haven't started it up again since.

I have two weeks off work coming up in September, so the plan is to buy no new games until then and then use those two weeks to do some catching up.
Whether or not I'll have the self control to not buy anything new is a whole other thing.

I'm lucky in that I don't tend to buy games unless I *really* must have it, or I've completed some other games beforehand.

I only really return games until I've played them to death, unless they are really not my thing and I just can't stand playing them.

Unfortunately several kick ass games are dropping in the Oct-Dec period and I can't pick them up until I've finished my exams in early December.

It's going to be torture.

One good point is I haven't spent any of my gaming money in a while, so when all those games drop, I'll buy every single one in December. Yay

I used to have that problem but I've gotten a lot better about it. I still have way to many games sitting around, it's so damn hard to resist a good sale (like the current one on SFIV).

Oh, and playing an MMO DOES NOT help. ;) :p

I don't even play an MMO and I have this problem. I'll probably never finish Lost Odyssey. Plus, I want to re-play Mass Effect before ME2 comes out; I just have no idea where it'll fit in.

Our lives are so hard! :D

World of Warcraft

There's your problem. Stop playing that and you will be caught up soon. :D I hear you though, I can't stop buying games myself even though I know I have plenty in the backlog.

You are way more dedicated to filling that thing out than I am. I put in 360, XBLA, and Wii, and called it a day. I mean, I could add my three GBA games, but what would be the point?

holy shit. why didn't someone tell me about this website?!??!

Wraith

Hmm. I'd use that site if I could look up games, rather than adding info (name and system) for every single game manually.

I remember when I quit WoW. I had a stack of unplayed games as high as small child. So I started playing from the top. I didn't play more than I did with WoW, in fact I played less, but that stack disappeared in a few weeks.

Turns out single player games only last 10-15 hours. Poof and they are gone and done.
