I've been tasked with putting together a set of music for my wedding reception. I have to have this put together in a couple days, and I haven't worked on it at all yet. So, I'm opening the floor for suggestions! Give me some tunes that are fun to dance to.

I don't remember our setlist... but I do know, play the "family appropriate" ones early so that later on in the show you can play what you really want played with the least amount of pissing people off. Seems to be the best way to go about it.

A few years ago I made a custom playlist because I wanted to do some freelance DJ'ing. I can see if I can find the text file and post it up.

if you want to go "family friendly" with the playlist, first off take a look at whats hot on the charts.

i've DJ'ed countless weddings (did until my gear was stolen 4 yrs ago).

I was in a wedding a few weeks ago, and here is what I learned...

Pro-Tip: Do not invite the new bride and groom to dance by themselves to "Let's Get It On" because you will make the entire reception feel awkward.

Oh, it was unbearable. They looked so pitiful. I ended up jumping back out on the dance floor and making a fool of myself in an attempt to ease the tension.

Our DJ played Apache by Sugar Hill Gang. It was GLORIOUS if people there know the dance.

Also, my recessional music was the theme from Chrono Trigger.

Trash Talk - Well Of Souls

25 seconds of hate.

Devoid of faith, we have been forced to walk the path that no one takes. Been raped and left to take the pain. A life amongst the flames. For what? For nothing. All for nothing. Stray from the path, they'll break your fucking back. No longer son of man. I, son of bitch. Exclaim attack. Cut me; I won't bleed. Choke me; I won't breathe. Shoot me. Suck me. Stab me. Fuck Me. Kneel before me. I have swallowed god. I am alone.

It's Hip to Be Square - Heuy Lewis and the News (it's a nerds wedding after all)

Cut the Cake - Average White Band

The songs you pick depend greatly on the styles you/they like. I've mixed discs for Country-style weddings, Rock-style, etc.

Trying to remember songs from our wedding - mainly it was Big Band / Standards stuff.

At Last - Etta James
Fly Me to the Moon - Done by just about everyone I think ours was Sinatra
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Jump in the Line - Harry Belafonte
Ain't that a Kick in the Head - Dean Martin
If I had You - Diana Krall
Ain't no Mountain High Enough - Diana Ross
I've got a Crush on You - Ella Fitzgerald
Tiny Dancer - Elton John
Get me to the Church on Time - Sinatra
This Old Heart of Mine - Isley Brothers
Shake Your Booty - KC and the Sunshine Band
A Kiss to Build a Dream On - Louis Armstrong
Buona Sera - Louis Prima
Your Love Keeps Liftin' Me Higher - Jackie Wilson
Rockin' the Casbah - The Clash
Walkin' After Midnight - Patsy Cline
Donde Estas, Yolanda - Pink Martini
Love Struck Baby - Robert Cray
A Wink and a Smile - Harry Connick Jr.
Superstition - Stevie Wonder
A Girl Like You - Smithereens
YMCA - Village People
I'm Beginning to See the Light - Bobby Darin

Eclectic, I Know. But then again, so were we. :o

Know I'm a bit late to this discussion, but as others have mentioned, "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong is a must. My sister & father danced to this b/c my father loves this song and loves "Meet Joe Black"

I thought I had created a wedding compilation, but in actuality, it's a gaming playlist. Sorry! TurboKinny and wyeast pretty much have it all covered though.

But, again, your wedding is Renaissance themed, so some "ye olde harp" and "ye olde lyre" would go pretty good.

Omg, no Chicken Dance! Seriously, I had to go through the whole first page of DJs on http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/bands_djs_entertainment.html (http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/bands_djs_entertainment.html) before I could find someone who convinced me they hated the chicken dance even more than I did! (I went with him immediately, btw).

"You Never Can Tell" - Chuck Berry

Awesome song. Also, an awesome list in general. Makes me want to get married. Whos up for it?

Can I just say though, your posting the songs as "Song Name" - Artist or Artist "Song Name" is sending my OCD meter off the hook. I like good old fashioned Artist - Song Name.

EDIT: Didnt realize I'm contributing to a Necro'd thread. So.... how did the wedding go?
