Has anyone tried this? It's the first fully featured GPS app on iPhone that doesn't ding you for a monthly charge.
I'm very tempted to grab it since it'll be discounted to $70 instead of the usual $100 for the NA version till August 15th. Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/22/navigon-brings-mobilenavigator-to-iphones-app-store-we-go-hand/#continued) has some impressions that are fairly positive.
I've never owned a GPS system before and this seems like the best cheapest option I've ever found.

Haven't tried it, but it looks interesting. Can't justify it, though, since I already have a TomTom (and they're going to put their software on the iPhone too). heh. But I am also curious to hear reviews.

The Euro version has some problems with the GPS signal, although I think they posted a fix somewhere. Once it has the signal, it works. I like it.

Honestly, I had a GPS but returned it because of the Google Maps app on both the iPhone and Blackberry...

Google maps is not the same as a GPS system. If it works for you, awesome, but you can't compare the two.

They're different?!?!? HOLY CRAP.... no one told me. I'm pissed now...
C'mon man. How does one decide if it's worth it unless one compares? GPS built into phone + routing software = good enough imho.

Maybe I just don't 'get' the whole GPS thing (had one, never used it, sold it (it was a xmas present)), but on the times I've used the GPS+routing software with the iphone, its lead me to whatever street address I put in, granted it doesn't give me voice directions, but what else is there?
I'd be hard pressed to find a reason to put cash down to buy something I already kinda have, unless I'm missing something glaringly obvious (which is possible).

I am going to get some form of GPS for the iphone but at that price I think I will wait for some maturity or options from other companies.

There's another one available right now, at least over here. It's about the same price as the Navigon app and it's a direct port of their WinMo GPS, without extra iPhone functionality.
I don't expect TomTom to be cheaper either.

While I like the whole sarcasm thing (acting like a dick online is fun!), I'm pretty sure that Google isn't comparing Maps to a turn-by-turn GPS either.
Also, you have to have a connection to the internet when you're using Maps. This app (and every other GPS app) comes with maps you can use even when your data connection fails, it's also more accurate than Google Maps and while the lack of voice directions might not be important to you, it's still a lot safer than having to read what's on your iPhone screen.

Okay, the Euro app just got an update. Apparently they just make you download the new version instead of patching the one you already have, as I'm downloading 1,67GB...again.

If Google Maps was even a shitty GPS program Apple wouldn't allow these other GPS programs on the app store because they would duplicate something the iPhone already does....we've seen that in the past.
