From the NYT (http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/17/walter-cronkite-iconic-anchorman-dies/), Walter Cronkite, dead at 92. At one point the most trusted man in America.

I hate the news, but knew it was coming. He was up there in age, sure, but he hadn't been in the best of health as I recall.

I was shocked when I read this...then I saw his picture, and had no idea who he was. I can't tell 'em apart.

EDIT: Okay, I just saw a picture of him when he was younger and wearing those glasses - that jogged my memory.

Hey, he was around back when journalism wasn't a complete joke. As a reporter, he has my respect. And that's the way it was.

Sad to see him go, but it was expected, and death is always inevitable. I guess we should be glad he lived a long life.

A damn shame that Jackson's departure received so much more coverage than Cronkite's.
His influence was even felt on this side of the pond.

Agreed, but Cronkite's death was very expected. Whereas MJ's was somewhat surprising. Plus both figures were very influential in their own way.
