Bayonetta Slips to January 2010 in North America

Do you hear that? It's a sound similar to a rushing river. We hear it every year at this point, and every time people are shocked to hear it. It's the sound of games fleeing the holiday season for the (seemingly) safer waters of early 2010. The game in question this time is Bayonetta.

From developer Platinum Games and publisher Sega, Bayonetta is an action title from Hideki Kamiya, the man behind such games as Devil May Cry and Okami. In the game you play as a shape-shifting, gun-toting witch who kills people with her hair.

Don't get too upset though, the game is still coming out in Japan in October for the 360 and PS3, so importers can still play it early.

I'm glad publishers are finally realizing they don't HAVE to release before the holidays. This is happening for so many games, though, what big names are still releasing this fall?

At this point it's crazy to launch a new property during the holidays unless there's a massively popular developer behind it. It wouldn't shock me to see Alpha Protocol, Dark Void and Section 8 slip to 2010 as well.

Smart move, I think this would have done very poorly here if it released late October. For me there is:

Dragon Age Origins
Splinter Cell: Conviction*
Forza 3*

Those are mid to late October releases. I will be totally ready for Bayonetta in January.

I know there's loads coming out, but seems like a lot of games I really wanted are getting pushed. Probably all going to launch in March which gives them the same problem as in November. Sega will probably even set this up against God of war 3:P
