Do you not have any friends who like to play card games? Or do they not live anywhere near you? Well, here's a solution:

Magic Workstation (http://www.magicworkstation.com)

What it is:
A client that allows you to connect to a server and play with other clients using a persistent virtual table.

What you can do with it:
There's downloadable card sets and themes for just about every big TCG out there. The one I use it for the most is WoW TCG.

What it's useful for:
Testing decks and keeping track of your physical collection. Playing with people across the world.

What it's not for:
Learning how to play. You have to know the rules of the game because the players are in complete control of the table. You have to do all of the card manipulation yourself and without any sort of prompts or help from the program.

Isn't this illegal/immoral?
It's not illegal because MWS does not package the content files with the client. They're all user support and in most cases unoffically given the go-ahead by the companies who make the cards. This isn't a replacement for physical cards, it's simply a tool to play the games we love when we can't get together. In my experience, I end up buying more cards and playing the game more when I'm able to experiment with crazy ideas via MWS.

If you're interested in playing a specific game with MWS, simply google MWS and the game name and you'll probably turn up a good source for the files you need and instructions on how to use them. If you can't find the game you want, post below and I'll see if I can dig it up for you.

You sir, are amazing. If I had known WoW and other TCG's were available to try out on MGS, I'd have learned some other games long ago!

Wow. It looks like L5R is a work in progress at the moment, but if it ever gets finished (doesn't appear likely), I'd love to get a game going. Thanks for the site link, mightbe, I'll have to check out some other games on here.

MWS is awsome for making decks and playing online. or creating an inventory of your cards if you really have the time. i just like to play with cards i probably won't ever own in real life

It's an especially great tool for Magic, since in Standard it's pretty expensive to build a Tier 1 deck lately. Before you commit to dropping coin on the cards, it's fantastic to have a tool like this to adjust and tweak a build.

I have loved and Used MWS for a while now, but I always return to the faithful Apprentice for MTG. I dunno why, it just feels like you are actually playing it more.

Apprentice is another fine program but seeing as I use MWS for WoW TCG 99% of the time, it's all about MWS for me.

what about lackeyccg (http://www.lackeyccg.com/) - support many games and imho is easier to install (and still in development)

I'm assuming this is PC only? I've only played a little of MTG but this would whet my TCG quite a bit if I can nab it for the Mac.

There a few apps like MWS for L5R. Try checking out the following:

Egg of P'an Ku (http://eopk.monkeyblah.com/)

or

The Game or Gempukku (http://www.kamisasori.net/) (both on the same site)
