It may not be easy being green, but it's a good time to be Green Lantern. Just days after Ryan Reynolds was announced as the star of the film version of the character, and just days before the "Blackest Night" crossover kicks off in the comic books, Warner Bros have announced a Green Lantern game.

The game - which will likely be released alongside the film in the summer of 2011 - is being developed by Double Helix Games, whose most recent efforts include Silent Hill: Homecoming, GI Joe: Rise of Cobra and Front Mission Evolved. Double Helix was formed several years ago when The Collective and Shiny merged. This would be the first game to star Green Lantern, which is pretty odd when you consider that this iteration of the character is about to celebrate it's 50th anniversary, and is one of the most recognizable characters in the history of comic books.

No further details of the game were announced.

And what does this mean for my dream movie, "Green Lantern Vs. Deadpool"?

What kind of movie magic will they have to do to sort that out?

What kind of movie magic will they have to do to sort that out?How about Green Lantern vs. Deadpool vs. Hannibal King vs. the Male Nurse from Harold & Kumar?

I followed the saga of GL in the comics but never fanatical about it. A game I might be interested in. I wonder if you will be able to play the various GL's. Even better let me be able to play Sinestro in MP :)

I'd rather they follow the books than the movie, personally. Then I'd have the chance to play as Dex-Star, the Rage Kitty.

Reynolds is fine IMO. He's better suited to Deadpool, but he can pull off Hal Jordan

We'll have words tomorrow, poozer. :)

Best thing about the above image? Kilowog is the only non Earth lantern. That boy has visibility. Also, my favorite GL: Corps member.

Really? I'd consider GL to be the front runner for the "Character Most Loved By Comic Book Geeks Despite No-One Else Knowing Who The Fuck He Is" award.

Green Lantern is well known...as for the game, I want Mogo as a playable character.

You know what else would be awesome? A Spore-like Construct creator. I don't if it's purely cosmetic and all the Constructs do the same thing, I want to kick ass with something that comes out of my brain.

I hope you do have a choice to command a team of the Corps.

Man, I can't think of what this game could be like for the life of me and have it still be satisfying. I guess it'll probably be something like the Iron Man game, which isn't too appealing.

It could be, but, it looks like these fellas have a 2 year head start, which is nice. How much dev time did the Iron Man game have? Just over a year?

I really have no idea, but this seems like an announcement that's coming WAY before any talk of an Iron Man game did.

Agreed, I think he'll be fine. Besides if i can live with Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane I can live with Ryan Reynolds as Hal.

FYI, Devs had more time for Iron Man 2. According to Marvel blogger, he has played a build.

So Ryan Reynolds has the best of both worlds - staring in a Marvel movie and a DC movie. I'm sure this will be a great comic movie.

I'm not up on my comic knowledge but didn't they turn Hal Jordan into Parallax and Kyle Rayner is the Green Lantern now?

By the way, you can't invert your aiming stick in Silent Hill Homecoming. The invert option affects only aiming, not looking, and it uses Gears-style controls. When asked about it, The Collective said that it wasn't an issue, because NONE of their testers preferred inverted aim, so it wasn't noticed.

That's their commitment to details, right there.

A friend and I were trying to think of worse possible casting than Reynolds as Green Lantern, and the only thing we could come up with was Michael Cera as Galactus.

He then mentioned that Mickey Rourke was playing Whiplash in Iron Man 2. I didn't know who Whiplash was, so I Wiki'd the name, and the first result was a female supervillain. That said, Mickey Rourke as any female would be the worst casting ever.

Ultimate Whiplash is male. Why do you think Reynolds as GL is among the worst possible castings? I think if he reigns in his natural humor just a bit (but not entirely, Jordan can tell a joke here and there) he'll be fine.

Because the full range I've seen of Reynolds consists entirely of douchebag and wacky douchebag. The human representation of will he is not. I could see him as Rayner, maybe.

Yeah, I found that one from the "'Whiplash' is also the former name of Blacklash" link at the top of the article. I just read through the Whiplash article first, and the only mention of a male version was in Ultimate. Still, though. Mickey Rourke as a woman would be the worst casting decision ever.
