What a week! First off, I started (and look set to end) the week with the kind of cold you usually only read about in books or the New England Journal of Medicine. I'm still coughing up spoonfuls of phlegm like it's going out of style. Where does it all come from, I wonder?
Anyway, time marches on and the CoG doesn't stop spinning because someone gets sick.
First up this week was the official announcement of Deus Ex 3 (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=501)! Seemingly intent on stirring the emotions of those who were deeply disappointed in Deus Ex 2, the announcement came with its own set of curios.
On the same day of the Deus Ex 3 announcement, Alan Wake decided to step out of the shadows once again (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=613).
Microsoft, high on the recent successes of the Xbox 360 following price cuts in all territories, announced their Tokyo Game Show lineup (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=621) - including the surprising inclusion of Tekken 6, which marks the first time a Tekken title will appear in the home on a console not made by Sony! Oh, and Halo 3 Recon was announced (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=825) as well.
Speaking of Sony, I came across an Amazon link for yet another Sony SKU in the evermore confusing battle of SKUs. This time, for a penny short of $500, your money will buy you a PlayStation 3 with a 160GB hard drive, a copy of Uncharted, and a voucher for a free download of PAIN (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=655)!
Not to be outdone in the bundling stakes, Microsoft announced new bundles across all existing SKUs (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=839).
At least Microsoft is sticking to existing models and not muddying the waters by introducing a brand new SKU. Still, with the multi-SKU options out there, are Microsoft and Sony trying to confuse consumers? When a parent is faced with the dizzying options of Xbox 360 and PS3, the Wii would absolutely be the easier purchase (assuming you can find one, that is).
Yikes.
Moving on from the console wars, our very own Andrew introduced a new feature at our sister site, Play-it-Review-it (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=847).
Still on sister sites, Co-Optimus brought the funnies TWICE this week. First of all with the headline Tempted by the Loot of Another (http://www.co-optimus.com/editorial/83/page/1/Co-Op_Couples%3A_Tempted_By_the_Loot_of_Another.html) , an editorial by Jim McLaughlin (okay, so that one wasn't posted this past week...), and secondly with a quite ridiculous (and funny, for some) Soulja Boy video (http://www.co-optimus.com/article/668/Soulja_Boy_Doesnt_like_Co-Op.html) in which he claims he's able to, well, check it out for yourself.
What else? Oh, we review Frac ture (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=605) (note the fracture!). My review copy of Dead Space arrived this week - I still like it! Very much (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=999).
Finally, this week's 'gone gold' announcements go to two titles that are at the top of most people's lists - Gears of War 2 (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=938) and Fallout 3 (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=851).
Before I conclude this week's wrap up, I want to say a special thank you to Irene and the rest of the Colony of Gamers community for their touchingly awesome generosity (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=395). THANK YOU!
And thank you for reading. Here's to another news-filled week!
