Word has officially come out today that Talisman has been canceled. (http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/4818413/Talisman)
Based off the popular board game (http://'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talisman_board_game"), Talisman was announced to be in development quite some time ago, and then vanished off the face of the Earth. There was some discussion, I believe, that it hit some snags in development, but was still this winter. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case...
Rather recently we have finally stopped development completely. After a misfire at the start, the details of which I won't get into, we evaluated several options for moving the project to new developers, but the costs of moving forward outweighted the potential revenue. I realize this will be disappointing for the fans of the game.
The rights have reverted back to Games Workshop where I hope someone will pick them up and try again. I too still would like to play a Talisman videogame.
Rest in peace sweet prince.

This really sucks... How fucking hard is it to translate a board game into a video game, really?

Y'know, I have to wonder if GW copyright issues are involved in this somehow. It all seems strange to me.

Damn, dude, I was really looking forward to this title for Live Arcade too... I really think that XBox Live is a great place for board game "geeks" to be able to hook up with people around the country (especially their friends and family) and play some board games. Oh well, at least Blood Bowl is still coming (hopefully...).

Yeah, Games Workshop are known to yank the chain on many occasions. Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Dark Heresy are fortunately being outsourced, however.

Am I the only one happy that GW does yank the chain on games they don't like? d&d could learn from this,

Oh well, back to Ticket to Ride.

Wow, what a fucking letdown. This game was easily at the top of my list of wanted games for XBLA....

The problem is that within the industry, GW is not known for yanking the chain on poor quality licenses for that reason. They've been known to do it when they think they can make a larger buck by handling the IP expansion directly, which usually equates to disastrous results regarding said product.
Upon thinking about it further, Fantasy Flight Games might have more to do with this than GW, since recently they've been handed the license to continue the run of the fourth edition of the game. This edition releases next month, with the first expansion to follow in December of January. While in the real world, people wouldn't freak out about a online video game version cannibalizing the sales of the boxed game, not all people feel that way, especially considering that the Talisman license probably wasn't cheap.

The reasons for them not liking certain projects seems to be the fact that they tend to cannibalize their precious miniature sales, as was the case with Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and War/Starcraft.
EDIT: Huh. Evewalker kind of beat me to it. With a better, more coherent explanation.

And yet somehow WAR still got made, as did the original Blood Bowl PC game, and 40k Fire Warrior.
Here's hoping Cyanide makes a good Blood Bowl game.

I had a copy of Talisman plus all of its 6 expansion sets. The board(s) took up a massive space on the table when played and I actually felt it became a bit unwieldly to play. Especially when you have players spread throughout the playing area.
Sadly I actually sold it all on eBay for £150 ($US255) as I was no longer playing it and it was taking up space. This along with 6 other GW board games including Blood Bowl (1st edition), Judge Dredd (1st Edition) and Warrior Knights. They sold for high prices but I still miss them.
As for this cancellation I say ya-boo sucks to GW for this. A massive missed opportunity in my view.

Which would be weird but awesome. Fantasy action with an early 30's jazz soundtrack? Yes please.

The fact that people can't see past the "Shiny New Toy" filter. It's more of the same and a face-rape to the IP.

It's a fantasy horror novel that Stephen King and Peter Straub co-wrote.
More fantasy than horror though. It ties in a lot with the Dark Tower series, especially the sequel, Black House.

http://www.anaitgames.com/wp-content/darth_vader_nooo1.jpegGah! How did I miss this? Good thing James has the weekly roundups or I'd never find out about things like this.
This sucks though. I onlyplayed a few games of Talisman back in the day and it's always been a boardgame I've wanted to get, but my dearth of local friends to play it with has kept me from taking the plunge.
I've resisted getting one of the newer sets because I figured that I'd just wait for the XBLA version to come out. Well, looks like I can finally go and get my own copy of the game and start teaching my kids how to dungeon delve.

Yeah, that's it. We can't see past some kind of imaginary filter. We only think we're actually having a blast playing WAR.
At least come up with some real reasons.

I remember playing it as a kid and having a total blast. That was about 14-15 years ago though, so I don't know if I'd still have fun with it. There are plenty of adults who enjoy it though, so maybe.

I prefer it to most other GW games since it's got a low entrance fee and is a complete game in and of itself. Personally I've found myself completely priced out of the GW fanbase, and don't have the time and energy to collect an army, rule books and various expansions. Talisman is a pretty good remedy, since it's a lighter kind of game and can be played through in a few hours quite comfortably.

Nah, yours cuts right to the heart of the matter quite nicely.
It's all the fault of the Citadel buyout. When the miniatures company buys out the games company, doom is sure to follow.
Frankly, I'm stunned that Dawn of War has been allowed to continue as long as it has.

Well, that's just about the biggest pile of bullshit I've seen yet on this site that wasn't a Johan post.
