since my roommate and me finally decided to buy a ps3 when lbp comes out, i am looking for other games to get and besides burnout paradise which is a real bargain i am thinking about getting ratchet & clank since it is also very cheap.
also i am lazy, and thought instead of collectiong information about the game, i'll ask you for your opinion ;)
should i get it? and: does it have co-op or an online multiplayer component?
thanks

No co-op, multi.
And I didn't really like it (wasn't bad, but just got bored with it to quickly), my girlfriend however did, but she also didn't think it was better than the others.
As far as I'm concerned it's a very pretty PS2 game. Fun for a while, but not really exciting. R&C2 and 3 we're better games.

I couldn't disagree ( with respect ) more with menage about Rachet and Clank on the PS3. Its one of the top 5 games on the system and is a long ass game with a ton of gameplay. Easily one of my favorite games of all time. And the downloadable sequel to it is well worth the money as well though its a little on the short side but still its lots of fun.

Is the newest one cool to get if I never played the older ones?

I'll second that R&C is awesome. Not sure it's one of my favorites of all time, but it's absolutely worth purchasing. The gameplay, writing, and voice acting are all top notch.

The PS3 version was the first one I played , I never played the PS2 R&C games and I had no problems at all.

I think so. There isn't really a whole lot of depth to this game. You might not understand who certain characters are for a bit but they do a pretty good job of giving you a hint about who they are.

The PS3 one is the first I've played in the series and I had much fun. It's one of the better PS3 games I've played, but it doesn't say much in my case. It's nothing special, but the gameplay is really fun.

I didn't like it as much either although the graphics are sharp and bright.

I've played all past Ratchet and Clanks including the PSP versions and playing this just seemed like more of the same. I trying to trudge through it but it's hard. I'd say rent it if it's your first/second Ratchet game and play through. You'll have a blast. If it's not your first Ratchet game, still rent it to check out a few levels.

I'd say grab it. Very fun game, if not the most challenging in the world. It does have some replay, though, so you'll get your money's worth. If you've never played a Ratchet game before, though, you're in for a treat.

I was going to say "I thought I remember a thread with Gorvi giving this a thumbs up" which would mean go buy it...but you endorsed it already here :D. I haven't played the last few but this one was on my list to play...
If you are looking for other games for the PS3, get Drakes Fortune...it's definitely worth playing...and Resistance...i'm not usually a fan of the "shooter" genre or duck and shoot...but both of these were way beyond the usual ...

The second in the series was the Best IMO. Many vast improvements over the first one and still had a focused storyline w/ good platforming / adventure gameplay. Truly outstanding for a PS2 game.
the third is also great, but "Deadlocked" is...well, idk, it's no longer an adventure platformer, it became a kind of arena battle game. Freakin' Clank isn't even there with him any more! It didn't really do too much for me.

If you are a fan of action platformers in the vein of Banjo Kazooie, then yeah. I found it to be very fun. The weapon upgrade system adds some depth. Be sure you are upgrading the guns you will need in boss encounters, the RPGs, grenades, etc. The writing was fine, some humorous moments, especially the pirate dancing mini-game.

I'm an R&C sucker. I liked all the games thus far, and always look forward to the newest one.
That being said, I payed $15 for the tech demo that was Quest for Booty. After paying the same for other downloadable titles that had much more content, I felt ripped off.

I'll throw my hat in the ring with another recommendation for R&C. The one for PS3 was my first R&C game, and one of the two games I bought WITH the system. It gets a little repetitive at times, but I really like the weapon upgrading. A lot.

I agree completely. I still replay Going Commando every now and then, it's held up amazingly well.
I think my current ranking would be Going Commando (2), Tools of Destruction (4), the original (1), and Deadlocked (3). I tried the PS2 port of Size Matters but found the controls frustrating and the story lacking, so actually gave up after a few hours.

Going Commando was... and still is the best version of Ratchet and Clank. Now it just feels like they are milking the franchise and need to move onto something else.

I agree that Going Commando was the best R&C, but Deadlocked is hilariously fun in co-op. Insomniac did a nice job pushing the players towards working together, and the combat is crazy with two players firing off weapons in all directions. Insomniac should do a Quest-for-Booty-style downloadable arena combat game with 4-player co-op.

In six years since the series first hit retail, there has been 7 Ratchet and Clank games and 1 downloadable expansion game (this is not counting the 2 cell phone games) AND there is another one due next year...
They seriously need to retire the series.

3 of those (Deadlocked, Size Matters, and Secret Agent Clank) were essentially spinoffs. Either way, they're still very good games, the quality isn't suffering.
Of course, I would have rather seen the Jak series continue, I liked that one a lot better, but I don't think we're going to see that.

I second this (and ironically, own Lutheran's PS3 and copy of R&C). ;)
I've played what seems like a ton of hours in that game and I'm still not finished with it. Definitely worth the full price - and you can probably find it on the cheap nowadays. While the art style is 'cartoony' in comparison with a title like Uncharted, it is comparable in terms of showing off what the PS3 can do.

I agree.
Jak and Daxter was one of the first games I bought myself on PS2, and I played through it so many times.
The sequels were amazing, too.
I actually haven't read into it, but is it done, or just no current plans for continuation?

I'm not sure about continuation of the franchise, but I'm surprised you could get into the second and third Jak games. To me, the first one was the best, and the sequels tried far too hard to create a darker and more mature atmosphere. I'd love to have a downloadable game along the lines of The Precursor Legacy, and I hope that Combat Racing never sees the light of day again.

Naughty Dog has said they would like to return to it eventually, but nothing indicating any plans to do so soon.

I'd be much more receptive to a second Uncharted before seeing another Jak game. :D

The gameplay was still great, though. The second was a bit unbalanced, but I'd argue to the death (or something like that) that Jak 3 was probably the best action/platformer since Mario 64 and we still haven't seen a game as complete as that in the genre since. Jak 3 was just plain awesome.

I thought so and went into it with super low expectations. Any exclusive the fanboys drool over, makes me wonder if it's a good game or only held up higher because it's exclusive.
But after playing it... it's REALLY good. Well, until I got to a point where bad dudes just keep spawning over and over again and I'm out of ammo in all my guns, this part sucks but I'll get past it. But over all, the game is very good on a bunch of levels. You gotta see through the fanboy hype.
