Can you ever really put the genie back in the bottle? After an inadvertent "announcement" by the EA UK PR team, the official announcement of Command & Conquer 4 came down today.

Developed by EA Los Angeles, the game promises an end to the Tiberium series begun lo those many years back in Command & Conquer 1. New twists in this iteration include what sound like some light RPG elements: they promise a class-based system and persistent player progression throughout the various modes.

Oddly enough while the last two C&C games saw console releases, Command & Conquer 4 is (for now) only set for release on the PC when it drops sometime in 2010.

How well did the console versions do?

wasn't C&C 3 supposed to tie up the last of the Tiberium wars thing? I played 3 on 360 and it was pretty good, i should get it on pc where its meant to be played though I'm getting a little tired of RTS... especially C&C.

I am so excited. I felt the last two games were sort of dumbed down to work on consoles. I love me a good RTS. Shit I gotta play some more DoW2.

How could you possibly dumb down a C&C title? :p

I loved RA3 and can't wait for this. I hope they don't rush the game and deliver something deep this time. Heck, just copy the features from DoWII, even!

No. And Kane's Wrath came in there and fixed the pre-Riccitiello mistakes.

I'm stoked. They did a great job with Kane's Wrath (and RA3...although I did not like that every unit had a secondary ability. Too many just seemed 'tacked-on').

For some reason, I've never been as invested in the "main" C&C line as the spinoffs (Red Alert, Generals), but I figure I really should play C&C 3 at some point.

C&C3 was mediocre. I hope this is better.

Has anyone read about the required online connection... to play the SP part of the game?

We've been arguing about it on the IM forums (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=10202) for a while now, actually. Hop on over and share your thoughts.
