Nothing upcoming, but I'll be damned if Coulton at PAX wasn't fantastic.

Indeed...my favorite concert that I've been to this year. I have a feeling it will be topped though.

I'm considering driving to South Padre Island to see Willie Nelson right after Halloween- there's probably not much time left to see him play. Also this festival features Foghat, Los Lonely Boys, Grupo Fantasma and others.

Then there is the band that has been getting my band these great gigs at Antone's- they're called Flyjack (http://www.myspace.com/flyjacktheband) and they are just incredible to watch. They've also lent us their horn section (sax, trumpet and trombone) the last few shows we've opened for them. To me, the experience is better than a concert, more like a backstage pass experience, hanging out with these amazing musicians and then getting to play right before they do :0

Dude....don't kill the messenger. Willie Nelson was in Seattle Thursday night before PAX.

Honestly, I didn't have the energy and my money was mostly spoken for too. I think it was mentioned to me in passing that we were missing Willie at that exact moment and I said, "well... shit!".

I might go see Stone Temple Pilots.

And I might go see Eve6.

Basically, I'm going back to 1998 to see some concerts.

Hehe. Cool though, I missed STP in their previous life, that's a band I would love to see now. I really liked where their last album took them, musically (away from the Pearl Jam/Alice in Chains vibe they started with, when I discarded STP as "Pearl Temple in Chains" before I learned to appreciate them).

I might go see Jukebox the Ghost open for Say Hi in Birmingham in a couple of weeks.

I'd also really love to catch Randy Newman in Nashville, but I don't know anybody else that appreciates him the way I do.

Opeth is coming this friday, but that's about it. Sadly I couldn't manage to get tickets to either AC/DC or Metallica, as both pretty much instantly sold out.

Been a pretty damn good year for concerts though. Just saw the Doobie Brothers, which had to have been about the best thing ever, as well as Bonnie Raitt, Heart, Los Lonley Boys, Coheed and Cambria, DreamTheater/Opeth (again) Bon Jovi, and Rush.

Anyway, I somehow managed to convince the gf to come to Opeth with me. She has no idea what she's in for. I suspect I shall owe her for eternity.

I've seen a shit ton of shows this year, though they've all been smaller bands in smaller clubs.

Most recently I went to see The Faint touring for their new album, Fasciinatiion. A killer local electro band, Cavedoll, opened for them that I can't get enough of. They do a cover of Karma Police (http://www.myspace.com/cavedollband) that hits all the right spots for me.

Before that it was Ladytron, VHS or Beta, Cut Copy, and a mixed show up at the UofU that had Shiny Toy Guns and Hellogoodbye.

Haha, talk about misleading. That cd would be a little too slow for her tastes anyway, she does upbeat rock or country.

The first song I ever heard from Opeth was Benighted. I instantly fell in love. The second song was Moonlapse Vertigo, my love was suddenly and rapidly fading, and I think the only thing that saved that song was the cool opening riff, and the jazzy section in the middle. The third song was Serenity Painted Death... At which point I listened in slack jawed horror and revulsion. I think it took a good 6 months of listening for me to even begin to appreciate what I was hearing, and another 6 for them to become one of my favorite groups.

3 more sleeps. I am rather thrilled. I was kind of dissappointed when I saw them with DT. a 50 minute set, 40 minutes of which the drums and bass were way too loud, the guitars way too quiet and the vocals almost inaudible. It made me want to cry. Although, while he's not Lopez, it certainly did make me appreciate Axe's drumming.

I saw Opeth last night, and dear lord they were amazing! They played for 2 hours. High on Fire was pretty solid too, though I found them a very unsuitable opener for the mighty Opeth.

Next up for me is Amon Amarth with Ensiferum, Belphagor, and The Absence on the 11th. This show should be quite great, I've seen The Absence before and they we're MINT live. I only have the best of hopes for the other bands aswell.

Then after that Comeback Kid, and Misery Signals on the 14th. I heart Misery Signals.

Rounded out by 3 Inches of Blood on the 21st!

So excited!

My GF and I saw The Slackers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQzABh2FpYY) last Friday night.. goddamn they put on a killer show. Just so much fun, and always such a great vibe in the crowd, too.

Other than that, there's nothing on the horizon, although it's been a while since I checked.. STP would probably be a killer show though.

Saw Project Revoluton, wasn't as good as I was hoping for. I'll be heading to see Jim Gaffigan in Dec. though!

My wife and I went to Project Revolution when it came through Dallas a few weeks ago. I thought Street Drum Corps playing with Linkin Park was really good. Of course the real reason for going, Chris Cornell, was great. I never got to see Soundgarden growing up so this was the next best thing.

Enjoy Jim Gaffigan. He's definitely one of my top five favorite comedians and he did a great set when I saw him live a couple years ago.

I'm going to see Sigur Ros on Friday and so far I have tickets for 3 out of the 5 Black Crowes shows in December in SF.

You'll have to let us know how Sigur Ros is live. I have all their albums and they're great for relaxing or reading but I don't know that I would want to see them live. I'm also thinking their tickets might be kind of pricey.

As for me, I don't have any shows on my calendar coming up but my wife has gotten us tickets for a few things. Jaguares (http://www.jaguaresmx.com/) is this weekend. Also, everyone's favorite Broadway show STOMP (http://www.stomponline.com/) is next month.

Only upcoming one I have is Henry Rollins on the 19th. My girlfriend is going to see Madonna on the 30th...yah, we have differing tastes sometimes ;)

I'm pretty "concerted" out this year. I've been more than lucky enough to witness Coachella and then the Pemberton Festival. I think I've seen more bands this year than I have my entire life so far :)

Now, I'm going to take a rest. Only ones I want to see is Sigur Ros, maybe Neil Young, Beck if he comes back around, the Frames/Swell Season, and Basia Bulat if she comes back around.

Now I'm going to Rock al Parque (www.rockalparque.gov.co) which is like a big festival with tons of new Colombian bands and plenty of International guests. That same saturday we have Combichrist too, so I've got lots of things to see/ear :D

I thought about seeing Rollins but I couldn't tell if his current tour was spoken word or with his band.

Does it even fucking matter?! SERIOUSLY?!

Any chance one gets to see The Man, one should take. Were it not for shit with work, I'd be front row at both of the shows that he's doing in Colorado in November.

As it is, however, I will be in Hotel California for that period of time... so I'm going to have to find something on the left coast to amuse myself with. I'd honestly rather be seeing Hank do his thing (wherever that might be) though.

But that's just me. I'm not like a psycho-stalker fan of the guy or anything...

Ha ha ha ha!!

Regardless of whether he's doing the band thing, or the talking thing, any opportunity to witness Henry Rollins in front of a live audience is worth checking out. Okay, I've said my piece; and now you may speak amongst yourselves again. :D

I haven't been to any in a while, but suddenly there are a bunch coming for me.

10/5 - Nick Cave
10/7 - The Residents
10/9 - Of Montreal (might skip this one if worn out)

Also probably going to see some of the following in coming weeks: Ra Ra Riot, Magnetic Fields, The Mountain Goats, David Byrne, The Rosebuds, Conor Oberst...the list goes on...

Seen a lot of indie acts from the New England/NY area, but that's about it. Nothing lined up for the rest of the year (except maybe tiny, cheap, spur of the moment things) unless Astronautalis's concert schedule magically adds a show in the Albany/Rensselaer area. But he probably won't. More people in NYC; therefore, more fans.

Well now that 10/05 is in the past, here's what I posted elsewhere about the show. (Short answer: it's a real shame you missed it!)

Last night I went down to the 9:30 Club for the Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds show. I left a little before six for a show where the doors opened at seven, and I was worried I'd be getting there too early. Instead, when I arrived I saw the longest line I'd ever seen for a show there; apparently everybody with black in their wardrobe came out.

I feel like I was lucky to still manage to secure a good spot on the balcony. I could see everything, and it was great -- first the Bad Seeds came out to take their positions and start the music, shortly followed by Nick Cave sauntering out with all the swagger and magnetism of a rock god. It was amazing the way he commanded the stage, and there were points where I thought they were on the verge of tearing the whole house down. Incredible performance, that's all there is to it. I sure hope his roadies get hazard pay....quite possibly in the form of women, since there was an almost tangible ovulation happening in the crowd. I suspect that some in the crowd may have even been impregnated just through the sheer sexual force of his stage presence!

They played for a good two hours, pausing every now and then to mock a New Zealander in the audience. Many of their older songs were reworked into something new; "Red Right Hand", for instance, was almost a swinging lounge version punctuated by LOUD FLASHING AWESOMENESS.

Helluva good show. If they're coming to your area and you can get a ticket, go. A truly unforgettable performance!

(Side note: I like to think that in their off time, Warren Ellis and Alan Moore hang out in a shack in the middle of the nowhere, growing their beards and writing angry missives and making music on half-empty jugs of whiskey that are only labeled with "X X X".)

I just got back from Amon Amarth with Ensiferum, Belphagor, and The Absence. Amon Amarth and The Absence were the strongest IMO with Ensiferum coming in a fucking damn hell of a third. Belphagor was frankly awful compared to the rest of them. Amon Amarth actually made me want to be a viking, they had amazing stage presence, a killer setlist, and sounded fucking great. The Absence, like always, was amazing, didn't miss a note. Ensiferum didn't move around too-to much, but did some awesome headbanging, and sounded near flawless. Belphagor was boring and laughable compared to the other two, way to get on stage and take yourself FAR to seriously.

Sounds awesome.

What did they play? Was there a pretty heavy dose of stuff off of the new album, or was there some good old stuff in there too?

There were a lot of songs from the new album (maybe half of the album?), but also many classics like Deanna, Red Right Hand, The Weeping Song, The Mercy Seat, etc. My location on the balcony was actually right above the sound booth, but my camera's zoom wasn't good enough to get in and see the sheet of paper with the full listing on there.

That's cool.

I was just wondering if they would have played The Sorrowful Wife, Into My Arms, God Is In The House or The Ship Song. Those are all favorites of mine.

I just recently saw The Raconteurs and The Black Keys back-to-back in Atlanta. Absolutely great shows, although the opening act for The Black Keys (Jessica Lee Mayfield?) put everyone to sleep.

In November I'm going to be seeing Dragonforce, Turisas, and Powerglove in San Francisco. I'm not a huge fan of Dragonforce, but Turisas and Powerglove are awesome. I highly recommend going to one of these shows.

This Is Hell in town tonight. Room packed with a hundred angry kids... good times. Staying a friends house tonight and then they will follow us to their show tomorrow in which we will also rage. This is going to be a good week.

I was thinking of seeing a Cafe Tacuba concert very soon, but it's rather far away for me given that I don't own a car and am not really all that familiar with the band.

The number of concerts I attend each year is dwindling. But at least I have the fest once a year to make up for it. Friday is waaay too far away dammit!

Lets see...recent concerts...hmmmm

My most recent was a bunch of no namers from the local metal and hardcore scene. Mostly crap, but I was there to see my buddy's band anyway. Before that, I saw Celtic Frost and Type O Negative. Celtic Frost was pretty good but Type O sounded fucking horrible. I'm not a big fan, but apparently no one did a sound check.

The only recent concert of note was a GWAR and Municipal Waste show. Good God, greatest show I've ever been to. Ever. In my life. Gwar's stage show seriously can't be beat and I've never had so much fun being sprayed by water and food coloring. Even if your not a fan of the music, you might get a kick out of the band's cartoonish antics. Lets say the show involved multiple sacrifices, a T-Rex, Bush's decapitation, a nazi pope, and the singer's fake dong spraying the crowd in green goo, and we'll just leave it at that.

I haven't been to a concert in 2 1/2 years. :(

The last one was Front Line Assembly/DJ Acucrack/Stromkern in June of 06.
