Yes it's official. Lucas Arts and Steam are partnering up to release some of the best classic Star Wars and Indiana Jones games, as well as a few others that not many people may remember. The Dig was a cult classic point-and-click adventure game produced by Steven Spielberg. Other titles include:
Armed and Dangerous
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure
LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure
LOOM
Star Wars Battlefront II
Star Wars Republic Commando
Star Wars Starfighter
The Dig
Thrillville: Off the Rails

Monkey Island (Remix) is coming NEXT week, but a fully voiced DOTT, S&M and Grim Fandago sound AWESOME. But why no Zak McCracken love?
If the new Monkey Island and this program are successful could Lucas Arts go back to the days of adventure games?

Hey, looks good. Maybe if these sell well, we might start seeing the rest of the LucasArts gems show up. I never did complete The Dig, but I sure did get into it. I wonder if this has DOSBox built in, or if I need to grab/configure my own installation.
Speaking of which, has anybody had any luck/problems running DOSBox in Windows 7 64bit?

I haven't tried DOSBox since WinXP, sorry... One of the members of the IM Podcast does a lot of DOS gaming in Windows but has only gone as far as WinXP, unfortunately.
Regarding these titles, I'm presuming that they are going to create an emulation layer very similar to what DOSBox uses. I wouldn't imagine that they are going to have those that purchase the games off of Steam then have to configure the game's emulator package.

I hadn't seen the movie when I played the game (embarrassing, I know). A friend of my dad's sent it to my brother and I along with a note that said "WATCH OUT FOR THE RATS IN THE CATACOMBS!"
I was completely freaked out the entire time for these rats, which (spoilers?) don't actually exist.

Oh damn that is awesome.
Only a few days ago my friend and I were wondering why these titles weren't on Steam.
We particularly wanted the Dig; he and I first played it in primary school and it was the most mature and adult game we'd ever played at the time. I remember each of our CDs had problems with them at different points in the game, so we'd have to each get so far then swap discs to continue. I bought a few of these as dirt cheap PC rereleases a few years back but I'll happily buy them again on Steam.

Anyone who likes sci-fi and adventures games MUST pick up The Dig. Not only is the story, artwork and voicework great but the soundtrack is top notch. Anyone else have the original soundtrack that came with the game?
I wonder which version of Loom this will be; hopefully its the best of all versions combined. VGA, full voicework and sound effects. Either way I might have to pick it up as my version of Loom is on 3.5" disks in its original box and in storage. Does anyone else have the cassette tape intro story that came with it?

Some games on Steam run off of DosBox so the idea that these could be running off ScummVM isn't that far fetched. If it does, it'll work perfectly. This is of course, referring to the ScummVM titles.

Looking at the filtering of the screnshots on Steam I'd say there's a better than even chance they're using ScummVM.
Looking at the Loom screenshots I'd also say it's the FM-Towns full talkie version which made for a much more interesting play than the original release.
I've already got all of the adventures released so far (from the old days, including the wonderful copy protection wheel for FOA) so I'll be waiting to see if maybe they can get the FM-Towns version of Zak McCracken (I've got the original C-64 floppies around somewhere) and GF/FT up before I jump in.

A few commments:
- Both Indy games look fine on fullscreen (I don't think there are any options in-game for this, so I just hit alt+enter) on my huge monitor.
- Fate of Atlantis sounds good, but Last Crusade's sound and controls are a bit more old-school (read: unpolished) than I had remembered. You can't even do the whole "left-click to do the most common action" thing (like left clicking on Marcus to automatically talk to him).
- The Dig won't load for me. Here's what a forum-poster on Steam had to say:
I just purchased The Dig, and from what I can tell it doesn't run on x32 machines (or maybe just on mine).
When I try to run from steam it tells me the game is currently unavailable, and when I try to run the game manually from the folder it either tells me that my my 'side-by-side configuration is incorrect' or that 'this version of the file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running'.
This is both a warning and a plea for help.
I would really love to play this game.

Ahem. So. I didn't get into PC gaming during the halcyon days of Lucas Arts titles. Do I buy LOOM? I can't tell if it's actually the Second Coming or if you guys are being sarcastic. :o

LOOM is OK, but not anywhere near as good as the Monkey Island games or Fate of Atlantis.
For five bucks you probably can't go wrong, though. I never beat it back in the day, so I'm considering getting it as well. It's pretty strange, but I remember liking what I played.

I just tried it again and it's working fine now, was just some toggle on Steam's end I bet, someone forgot to turn the game on or something. Nice to not have to jump through hoops to play some older games, just download and fire them up, good times.
Also I gave SW:Battlefront 2, and SW:Starfighter a try, both fired right up fine.
cool, thanks.

LOOM is good, although it is outdone by pretty much every LucasArts adventure game that came before or after it:
Maniac Mansion
Secret of Monkey Island
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Day of the Tentacle
Sam and Max Hit the Road
The Dig
Full Throttle
Grim Fandango
Moral of the story: if you only have $10, get Fate of Atlantis and The Dig out of these. If you can stretch it to $15, LOOM is a lot of fun, but is a different kind of game.

Honestly LOOM may be a pain in the ass without your "Book of Patterns".

LOOM is the latest masterpiece of fantasy storytelling from LucasArts' Brian Moriarty? Why it's an extraordinary adventure with an interface of magic. Stunning, high resolution, 3D landscapes and sophisticated score and musical effects. Not to mention the detailed animation and special effects, elegant point 'n' click control of characters, objects and magic spells. Beat the rush! Go out and buy Loom today!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!! Awesome.
Ahh...I've missed you.
It's like bein' back in the old chat room during the live show, ain't it? Ha! :D

Oh man, I never had that book! When I played LOOM, I wrote everything down on a big piece of computer paper with a freaking crayon for some reason. I did the same thing when I used to play Bubble Bobble and Faxanadu. Huge pieces of paper, tons of crayon passwords, no idea what they were even for.

Did you try using compatibility mode with Majesty? I use XP and also had a bunch of stability issues with it until I switched it to Win 95 compatibility mode. I haven't had any issues since.
I did, but it didn't work for me. Perhaps I did something wrong. I should try turning on compatibility mode and then opening the game straight from the EXE and not from within Impulse. That might work.

Wow! I wish I still had my Book of Patterns!! Like I said, I've got my cassette tape around somewhere but the book got lost somewhere over the years. I think I'll be picking up this version of Loom since my version as a kid didn't have voices. I do wish LucasArts would of had the time and talent available to make the full trilogy though.

So far the only one I'm regretting picking up, of the ones I did - LOOM, IJ&FoA, SW:RC, and SW:BF2 is the last one. I expected more SP play there.
Enjoying the other three, though.

Just bought the Secret of Monkey Island remake. Download size is 2GB. I'm guessing that all the art is rendered at 1080p. Sweet.

How's the new control scheme work out? Can you use the old controls with the new graphics?

The puzzles in The Dig can be brutal at times. I might have to buy this Secret of Monkey Island remake.

The controls are exactly the same. The game is exactly the same.
The only difference for the new version is that the verb list and inventory are hidden, just like what pretty much every Adventure game went with after 1992 or so.
Also, F10 will transition the screen between the old and new version at any time, which is pretty freakin cool. It also has built-in 360 controller support, so I plan on hooking my PC up to my HDTV later to play at full res.
So, in two words: buy it.

Having never played the original release of Monkey Island, I'm loving this version on the 360. My only complaint so far is that you cannot choose how you want the presentation to work. I love the VGA graphics, but also love the new voice work. Why can't I play it with old graphics and new sound??? Oh well, the HD graphics are really nice. Still, I toggle it back and forth at almost every scene, because of how much I love those old school gfx.
I wish more games had Yakko Warner!
